Just a note, you wrote "Usula" instead of "Ursula" in the title
Anyway, I never saw all of Earthsea (only like 10 minutes) nor have I read her books but she seemed to have a good imagination so this is sad. |

It's still a shame that Miyazaki and company misled her so grossly about the movie. |

Earthsea was a damn mediocre movie, but an amazing series of books. I really would love to see a good adaptation of it one day, be it animated or live action.
She was such a visionary and inspired me tons. RIP. |

I'm really sad to hear this. Le Guin, the creator of the "ansible" which many SF writers have found useful in their own stories, is one of my favorite authors and it's hard to choose a favorite story of hers. I think I read Left Hand of Darkness first, and was impressed with how forward thinking its ideas were, and I thought the anarchist world of The Dispossessed was fascinating. The Word for World is Forest was devastating. I saw the PBS adaptation of The Lathe of Heaven and was blown away, and of course the novel was better.

Aw, RIP.
her Earthsea books are so good! too bad all the live adaption had the Avatar problem, lack of diversity casting. |

Oh wow, I just mentioned her in that whole DYRL thread.
While I've never read any of her works, I know she lived a great life with her writing. My condolences go out to the family. RIP. |

Aww, this is so sad. I loved her books, especially the Earthsea trilogy and the Catwings series..can't tell you how many times I reread these when I was younger. May she rest in peace.

It would be interested to see a Masaaki Yuasa adaptation of her work. I know that the Goro adaptation wasn't received so positively so hopefully another anime adaptation might do justice to her work.

If you were to write down the top 10 fantasy authors of all time, Le Guin is a no-brainer auto-inclusion. What's crazy is that if you were doing the same thing for science fiction, she arguably deserves to be on that list as well. Few people are a legend within a genre, but Le Guin is really the only person I can think of who wrote legitimate masterpieces across a diverse and varied array of genres.The Dispossessed was formative, especially regarding anarchic thought and capitalism.

Miyazaki didn't mislead her. Adaptations tend to deviate from source material, as we know when it comes to manga and anime, and she didn't really like some of the changes. |

She was misled in the sense that she thought the director of Totoro was going to direct Earthsea, and instead it got handed off to Goro for his less than auspicious first outing. I thought she was remarkably gracious about the whole thing, but I would've been pissed too.
