I was hoping 48 episodes, but I'm glad this gets an anime, so I'm sure they can make a good show anyway.

I'm just hoping those 36 episodes are not a full adaptation.
Ushio and Tora (a shorter series) got 39 episodes and the last 13 were rushed as all hell to complete the story.

Yeah, it seems obvious that the U&T staff were hoping for two more cours to finish the story and got one instead.
Hopefully Circus is being made with the expectation of more than one season, otherwise they'll have quite a time trying to jam a 9 year long weekly manga into that length.
