In the original Pokemon anime Ash always uses the same command in order to finish off Team Rocket...Pikachu's Thunderbolt attack
But what is the purpose of using Pikachu to shock Team Rocket?
Is it done to immobilize them? (stop them from moving?)
And either a jet-propulsion mechanism or an exploding bomb is what ACTUALLY launches Jessie, James & Meowth into the sky?
I feel this was probably explained somewhere by Satoshi Tajiri himself or whoever produced the anime but I am not 100% sure
What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance!!!

Team Rocket was inspired by the villains in Yatterman who were also defeated in similar comical fashion and it's mainly meant to be a silly gag in an episodic kids show.
