Someone really wants to cash out on Medalist popularity.

Overall looks like Idolm@ster but with figure skating and worse animation.

Theyre not even trying to hide their attempts to appeal to the “Medalist” fandom, even straight-out using the “Jupiter Suite” of Inori’s first victory routine as the trailer’s backdrop.

is the artist TiV? the girls kinda look like their designs

this is 100% gonna be on the vein of Uma Musume, Idoly Pride and Gakumas

the medalist "acussations" are kinda...ok i guess? to be completely honest i dont see Medalist as this omega hit (although i dont see the japanese side of anitwitter) and Jupiter's Suite is one of the most, if not the most, popular song for figure skaters

all in all, Melpot i think its a new indie developer, so i wish them the best, gameplay could be nothing new, but the concept is fresh

Seems to be a skating boom in Japan thanks to Medalist.

Good eye! Yup she sure is!

Both TiV and game confirmed her involvement as well:

Tweet also mentions TiV used to take figure skating classes as a kid, all the more reason to collaborate with her.

Founded 2016, game resume includes Link! Like! Love Live! and IDOLiSH 7, seems well on their way to relevance by now.

This is like one of the first things merntioned in the PV. It is my frirst time hearing about this artist but I immediately noticed them putting it in a spotlight in the video.

Medalist is very popular. I am not sure what you based your popularity assumptions on. It may be not as much discussed on the western sites because people either ignored the anime bacause of the studio or because of the horrible Disney+ and Hulu subs, but it is not an indication. And the song may be popular among figure skaters but there are million other ones they could use fror the PV but for some reason they chose this one which was used by Medalist for two of her iconic performances o far.

The link between Medalist and this game is much more direct. Akiko Suzuki, former Olympian, has been one of the main skating consultants for the manga and did mocap for the skating scenes in the anime. She is also the main choreographer of this game. The Winter Olympics is next year, so both Medalist and this game is trying to ride the hype that is ramping up for figure skating across Japan.

Medalist is very popular across East Asia, both the manga and anime. The U.S. release for both is unfortunately controlled by unpopular services (Kodansha's pay-to-view manga reader and Hulu/Disney+).

Considering The Medalist anime only just came out in January this game has clearly been in development way before the anime came out unless you really think they made this game in three months. The Medalist is not even the first popular skating anime or are we just forgetting Yuri on Ice now. More than one figure skating thing can exist.
