the only issue with Eva is... ... CN has stated that they are not interested in putting Eva on the Adult Swim block. We can hypothesize several reasons for this: The first is that they may have evaluated the ratings during Toonami's Giant Robot week, and felt they were not high enough to warrant picking up the series. Another possibility is that they felt it was too mature to air, but they (or ADV) were unwilling to edit the series for TV. It's also possible that CN simply doesn't want to air something that could benefit ADV's "Anime Channel" venture. These aren't the only possibilities. One can imagine other possible conflicts, such as: prohibitive price of broadcast, restrictions by the licensor (GAINAX), simply a lack of interest on the part of ADV or CN, etc. |

I've been hearing they could be Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Witch Hunter Robin, Zeta Gundam, Gundam SEED, and Vandred. But its all speculation at this point.

Or maybe ADV doesn't want to let CN use Eva because it's their (and subsequently Anime Network's) biggest draw.
Anyway, as far as what Adult Swim will show next, I dunno. Most likely it'll be a Bandai or Pioneer property, but something from Viz or FUNimation is always possible, as well. I doubt it'll be Naruto, simply because no one's announced that they have it, and as such I don't think anyone's dubbed very much (if any) of it. Personally, I'm pulling for something the likes of Witch Hunter Robin, or even Last Exile, but then something tells me it'll be neither of them. Eventually I'd like to see Zeta Gundam and/or Gundam SEED get Adult Swim runs, but Zeta's unlikely since CN's never completed the original series, and I wouldn't put it past CN to pull a second "Rurouni Kenshin incident" and throw SEED on Toonami because it "looks sorta like Gundam Wing." |

i hope so much that its Witch Hunter Robin. i love that show alot. But i would rather have Tech tv pick up the show because CN takes out the openings and tech tv leaves them intacked.

This information was announced a long time ago at AWA...but in any case, Swordfish_II is right in that it's only speculation at this point. But here's what I'm thinking:
- Bandai's Jerry Chu (sp?) stated that they're pursuing getting "Witch Hunter Robin", "s-CRY-ed", and "Arjuna" on TV. CN already passed on "s-CRY-ed" for Toonami (and it's doubtful it'll appear on Adult Swim), so now what? "Witch Hunter Robin" definitely looks like an AS-tailored show, and "Arjuna"...I've heard a lotta mixed reviews about this one. Who knows where this one will go, if anywhere? - CN also might go after that license that they prematurely announced: "Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex". Bandai did announce that there are others going after it other than CN. We'll just have to wait and see who puts out the most cash for this one. - Since "Lupin" fared poorly on AS and AS rotated the show out of the line-up, many people are saying that Pioneer's relationship with CN isn't exactly hot these days. That might change if CN announces, say, "X" or something, but then again Pioneer did give MTV "Heat Guy J". I'll wait and see on this one. - Many people want "Naruto" on AS, but I see "Naruto" going to Toonami. Why? It's a Shounen Jump property. Toonami is airing both "Dragonball Z" and "Yu Yu Hakusho", Funi will most likely want "One Piece" on that block, and whoever gets "Naruto" will probably also want the show there as well. I'm not saying that people WANT "Naruto" there - after all, "Inuyasha" isn't exactly adult but a lot of people are more than happy it's on Adult Swim - I'm just saying that's where it'll most likely go. And if/when that happens, I pray anime messageboards will be padded and flame-proofed. - ADV liked Giant Robot Week's performance, but apparently CN didn't. I read this as not seeing any ADV properties on CN for a long time coming, if at all. Besides, the Anime Network is slowly gaining more markets, so soon ADV won't have a reason to go to CN to show anime, even on the enticing Adult Swim block. (And yet I still see people asking for "Evangelion"...will the madness ever stop!?) - "Gundam" has been out of the loop for a long time...so much that at a con many many months ago Bandai wanted to put TWO versions of "Zeta Gundam" on TV: an edited version for Toonami, and an uncut version for Adult Swim. The problem? They announced this thinking AS was still only on Saturdays and Sundays but it had already long been in its weekday format. And judging by the fact that "Mobile Suit Gundam" never got a full run on either AS or Toonami, the chances of "Zeta" are quite slim. And in regards to "Gundam SEED"...I've heard many make this remark: "UC on Adult Swim, AC on Toonami". I'm prone to agree with them...but then again I've never seen "SEED". |

Trust me on this, SEED's a great deal darker than Wing or G. People have delcared it "this generation's UC," and it's certainly got the maturity of content to back that up so far. If SEED winds up on Toonami, it'd get bent over and raped up the--well, you know--by the scissor-happy Toonami editors. |

Specualtion?
Initial D and GitS:Sac. Tokyo Pop has really been tring to get someone, or anyone for that matter, to buy into the who Initial D thing. They shot themselves in the foo tby making a special version of it meant for a US audience (aka so many bad changes it makes me want to cry and the usual editing for tv doesnt bother me...). GitS:SAC I tihnk they got it long ago, but didn't want to move forward until they were sure of the future of the series. I mean really, if a second season was possibly comming out would you go ahead with showing the first before you knew you could secure the rights for the second? I could be wrong on that... I mean, it is only speculation. |

Arxane said,
I agree on the Witch Hunter Robin, though the dub on that as well as Arjuna are weak. I haven't seen "s-CRY-ed". Now Arjuna on AS is intriging and a little scary. This is exactly the kind of show might get "noticed" in a big way outside the Anime community. In fact, alot of the mixed reviews on this one are based on reviewers either loving or hateing the politics of the show (stands on the enviromet, global capitalism, abortion, marridge and family, implied premartital sex). I could picture it being discussed on AM talk shows, being in the news, and being denounced by the likes of Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh. Quite frankly, it is the most subversive things I've seen in years. Airing it would raise more eyebrows then Blue Gender. Politics aside, the overall storyline, is not strong, but certain individual episodes (the teacher one for example) make you go, wow. Production values and some of Yoko Kanno's best work are do make it very watchable. All the best, Nani? |

There is a thread on Adult Swim's forums currently at 1600+ posts asking for Love Hina. I've also heard mention that they might actually be considering it because of that. But that could just be rumor.

I really hope it's not Love Hina. The anime itself is good, but the dubbing was just plain horrible. Keitaro's name was mispronnunced, the sexual nature of the show was toned down, and Kitsune was given this really bad southern accent. If LH had a better dub, I'd say go for it, but not as it is.

I'm willing to add the theory that because of the religious undertones, CN wouldn't want to piss-off people by showing Eva. Then again, their gonan show an episode of Family Guy that mocks religion, so who knows.
Given the "sucess" of movies like The Fast and the Furious/2 fast 2 Furious, and the growing "popularity" of Street Racing in real life and on Video Game Platforms (I can't even keep Initial D manga on the shelves at the bookstore I work at because people who trick out cars are finding out about this manga; it's THAT popular) and the Aftermarket of Mods and Custom Parts, plus magazines like Import Tuner, Modified, and Sport Compact Car, and even Spike TV has shows on modifing cars for fun and racing (2NR:TV with those twins is my favorite show, right after MXC), I think AS would be ignorant to not capitalize on such a phenominon. |
