Mmm, I haven't read it yet and I've been told there are shounen-ai hints. I was just curious, asking anyone who's read the series, the amount of shounen-ai in it? I mean is there enough that it's significant, or is it a Yuki/Toya case?

Well, I don't know what a Yuki/Toya case would be, but yes, there are some vague shounen-ai hints. Most of them amount to either vague suspicions or the intense amounts of genderbending that go on in that manga, but there are hints.
Basically, the main character Duzell is trapped between two forms for the first six volumes: he can have the shape either of a kitten or the form of the girl who adopts him. In his "Ishtar" form, he has her face and build, but he can only shapeshift into male forms, so he still has male equipment. However, since he looks like a girl, he has this bad habit of getting kissed, propositioned, and proposed to by various guys. At one point there's a strongish hint that he enjoyed at least one of the encounters, although he gets really crabby about the others. Also, in a short at the end of the first volume, Duzell has a flashback to his days as the Vampire King. He is shown in bed with one of his subordinates, a character named Rishas, and I'm still not quite sure whether Rishas is supposed to be male or female (Judal's drawing style, while extremely attractive, involves *incredibly* androgynous guys, very much more so than most shoujo manga.) My personal theory is that the reader isn't supposed to know what sex Rishas is, given that the way s/he is drawn during the bedroom scene is neck-up only, although Duzell is shown full body (but with strategic areas concealed by a leg). The shounen-ai hints aren't strong, and they're mostly played for laughs, but yes, they are there. Not enough to really squick out or scare straight guys, but enough to be present, noticed, and cute. |

The Yuki/Toya case is from Card Captor Sakura, where there are HINTS, and occasional cheek touching, but nothing ever happens and it sort of drives you crazy.

Heh... well, there's a drag queen (who actually makes a rather pretty girl, and is in love with his adopted brother -- I forgot to mention that, as they don't really get that far into it, but yet, they are a legitimate shounen-ai pairing -- Seiliez/Laphiji), good old gender-confused Duzell, another vampire who seems to switch off genders and occasionally names, Rishas, a couple guards who are convinced that Ishtar's bodyguard and the court magician are having an illicit affair, the suggestion that said magician played for both teams in his previous position, and so on and so forth... it gets pretty funny.

Hai, thank you, I think I'm going to buy it now, considering it has everything I'm in love with: Comedy, Vampires and Shounen-ai
 that was very helpful, thank you Ooh, have you read Pet SHop of Horrors, I have the same question about the shounen-ai level in that too (I'm just obsessed, don't mind me...  )
