sounds like fun, I love the Godzilla franchise and all its goofy-ness, but that first movie is realy good, I would like to see it get more respect, that 1998 remake kinda sucked. though it was awesome in Godzilla FINAL Wars when they make fun of it, while also putting it in continuity.[/code]

Saw the original film when I was a kid living in NYC in the '50's. Scary movie back then. I'll wish these guys luck as I would love to see decent re-make of '54 flick during my lifetime.

But isn't most of the new films a sort of remake. Well, the only thing that's rebooted from the later films is what came out of the 1950's version. About the nuclear radiation being responsible and the lost info about the bomb that can stop him. I'm looking forward to Big-G's return. Let's hope they can come up with some cool looking special effects.

I don't think it won't be like that. You know who's involved in the remake, Yoshimitsu Banno (person behind Godzilla vs Hedorah). Also the Godzilla in the reboot will be closer to the Japanese one, not the Tristar version Emmerich and Devlin made. This is the Godzilla that will appear in the reboot/remake. This picture was from Comic-Con 2010.



From looking at the picture, it's look closer to the Japanese then the Tristar version. I'm glad to see Godzilla going the right way.

I don't know why everyone is hating on the 1998 Godzilla remake. I enjoyed that movie even as a fan of the original Japanese version. It wasn't a fair remake granted but it wasn't bad either.

Seems like a decent director. He did really well with the very low budget he had for Monsters, so I wonder how well he'd do with Godzilla's expected huge budget.

The 1998 one wasn't as bad as people say it is. It was just a different approach to the franchise, though in the later TOHO film they made remarks of Zilla & Godizlla being two different creatures specially in Final Wars where they are both seen on screen.

I would love to see this movie cause I've been dying to see another Godzilla film ever since I watched all of the previous ones.

Well because the Godzilla or Zilla is not like the original. I did read it on Wikipedia and this article that Godzilla suit actor, Ken Satsuma walked out of the theater when he saw the 1998 film and said:

At least the animated series was very close to the original Godzilla as in Zilla having a atomic breath, and fighting monster (some of the monsters are homages to Toho monsters). You know I did read it that before Tristar version of Godzilla, one director, Steve Miner (director of Friday the 13th part 2 and 3) wanted to do the American remake of Godzilla. He said this according to Wikipedia (with source backed up):

The idea was to do a Godzilla film as if it was the first one ever done, a big-budget American special FX movie. Our Godzilla would have been a combination of everything - man-in-suit, stop-motion and other stuff.


One of the writer who work with Miner on this proposed but never made it remake said:

We had a big Godzilla trying to find its baby. It's a bit of a Gorgo storyline. The big ending has Godzilla destroying San Francisco. The final Godzilla death scene was to be on Alcatraz Island


From reading this, if Miner had directed the American remake of Godzilla instead of the Tristar version. It's would have been the Godzilla American fan would've like. It sort of sad to see this has been wasted and that's how the 1998 version happened.

Why does the Roland Emmerich version of Godzilla get so much undeserved hate? It was great! His version of Godzilla was far more realistic than the original Toho version, which would never even be able to live under all that weight. Did they and I even watch the same movie?
