The official website for Fukigen na Mononokean Tsuzuki (The Morose Mononokean Sequel), the second television anime season of Kiri Wazawa's The Morose Mononokean (Fukigen na Mononokean) manga, revealed the anime's premiere dates on Thursday. The anime will premiere on AT-X on January 5 at 9:00 p.m. in Japan (7:00 a.m. EST), and then on Tokyo MX and Sun TV on January 6 at 10:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., respectively. It will also start on BS Fuji on January 8 at 24:30 (effectively January 9 at 12:30 a.m.).

Itsurō Kawasaki (Magical Girl Ore, Rental Magica, Shining Hearts, Tsukiuta. THE ANIMATION) is directing the season at Pierrot Plus. Takao Yoshioka (Ikki Tousen, High School DxD, Your Lie in April) is returning to handle series composition. Mizuki Aoba (Minna Atsumare! Falcom Gakuen SC) is replacing Atsuko Kageyama as character designer. Four-member male vocal group mono palette will perform the opening theme song "Long Time Traveller."

Hiro Shimono and Kōji Yusa will play the new characters Shihō and Gyōsei, respectively. The new characters are two of three influential individuals in the world of the yōkai.

The first television anime season premiered in 2016, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. Funimation released the series on home video in January.
