The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Anime Gets 88-Hour 'Endless Eight' Streaming Event
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Is Yuki Nagato your favorite character from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya? Ever want to relive her experience of repeating a certain summer thousands of times? No? Well, a livestream project is letting fans get about one 9,077th of that experience anyway. The "Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu/Endless Eight 88-Jikan Nama Hōsō ~Oyoso 1/9077 Nagato Yuki Taiken~" (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya / Endless Eight 88-Hour Live Broadcast: About 1/9,077 Yuki Nagato Experience) event will stream on Niconico Live from August 28 at 8:00 a.m. JST to midnight on the night of August 31.
In the anime's story, Haruhi and the SOS Brigade are caught in a time loop reliving the events of August 17-31. Only Yuki is fully aware of what is going on for the 15,532 repetitions the group lives. Kyon eventually becomes aware of the situation and finds a way to break the SOS Brigade free.
The 2009 version of the television series includes a series of eight episodes that retell the repeated events of the time loop, with some variations in each episode until Kyon figures out how to solve the predicament. For the streaming project, the first seven of the "Endless Eight" episodes (12-18) of the anime will each stream for 88 consecutive hours. Therefore, the project will have a total of 616 hours of streaming content.
The Pop Team Epic anime did its own spoof of the "Endless Eight" episodes last winter. AbemaTV streamed episode 8 of the series eight times on February 25.
