posted on by Egan Loo
The Canned Dogs blog reports on the demographics of the readerships for Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine, and Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, as provided by the Japan Magazine Publishers Association (JMPA) industry group, Kodansha's advertisting department, and Shogakukan's advertising department. Weekly Shonen Jump leads the pack with a circulation of 2.79 million. Unlike the other two rival magazines, it also boasts a readership with a majority — 62.9% — below the age of 14.
The MangaCast blog posted the 2008 circulation numbers for all the manga magazines reported by JMPA. The numbers represent the period between October 2007 and September 2008. Circulation is down across most magazines, including those aimed at young children, shōnen, and josei audiences.
