Kantai Collection -KanColle- Gets Arcade Game This Summer
posted on by Sarah Nelkin
The staff of the Kantai Collection (Kan Colle) franchise announced on Wednesday that a Kantai Collection arcade machine is in production with Sega. The team is aiming to formally launch Kan Colle Arcade in Japan this summer. In this game, players can use real trading cards, as opposed to the digital ones in the original mobile game. In addition, the arcade game will feature 3D character models.
Sega will hold location tests for Kan Colle Arcade between January 23 and 25. The company will accept applicants for the tests between Wednesday and Friday. No money is needed to be accepted to the location test, although money will be needed to play the game on the machine itself. The tests will be held at Club Sega Akihabara in Tokyo.
Kadokawa Games launched the original free-to-play browser game with the service provider DMM.com in April 2013. In the game, players compete with cards featuring female moe characters inspired by Japanese World War II warships such as aircraft carriers, battleships, and cruisers. Players build, organize, and repair their anthropomorphized fleet to progress through maps.
A PlayStation Vita port of the game, directed by the original browser game's producer and director Kensuke Tanaka, is slated to ship this spring.
The television anime adaptation of the mobile card game premiered in Japan last Wednesday, and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs.
