Tonkatsu DJ Agetarō Gag Manga Gets Anime Adaptation
posted on by Karen Ressler
This year's 36th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump will announce on Monday that author Iipyao and artist Yūjirō Koyama's Tonkatsu DJ Agetarō manga will get an anime adaptation. The magazine did not specify the anime's format.
The gag manga follows Agetarō Katsumata, a stupid but honest guy whose family has run a tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant for three generations. He's also a beginner club DJ.
The manga series began weekly serialization in Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ app in November 2014. Shortly after it debuted, a panel from the comic went viral. The panel, pictured below, features the main character having an epiphany that "tonkatsu cooks and DJs are the same" and makes a pun on "flyer" (for an event) and "fryer" (at a restaurant).
The manga also began monthly serialization in Shueisha's Men's Non No fashion magazine. Shueisha will publish the third compiled volume on August 4.
