Japan's New Ghibli Collection Set Offers 1st 'Ghiblies' Short on BD/DVD for 1st Time

Disney's official Japanese website lists Ghibli ga Ippai Kantoku mo Ippai Collection, a collection of Studio Ghibli works from the directors besides studio co-founders Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, for release on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on December 1. As a bonus, the collection will offer the first Ghiblies short on disc for the first time.
The collection will include the following works:
- Ocean Waves by Tomomi Mochizuki (1993)
- Whisper of the Heart by Yoshifumi Kondō (1995)
- The Cat Returns by Hiroyuki Morita (2002)
- Ghiblies: Episode 2 by Yoshiyuki Momose (2002)
- Tales from Earthsea by Goro Miyazaki (2006)
- The Secret World of Arrietty by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (2010, with the North American dub and subtitles on the Blu-ray Disc version)
- From Up On Poppy Hill by Goro Miyazaki (2011)
- When Marnie Was There by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (2014)
- The Red Turtle by Michael Dudok de Wit (2016)
- Earwig and the Witch by Goro Miyazaki (2020)
The collection will also include a commentary booklet as well as the first Ghiblies short on The Cat Returns/"Ghiblies: Episode 2" disc.
This is the third Ghibli Blu-ray Disc/DVD collection, following the collected works of directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Both Miyazaki Hayao Kantoku Sakuhin-shū (The Collected Works of Director Hayao Miyazaki) and Takahata Isao Kantoku Sakuhin-shū (The Collected Works of Director Isao Takahata) sets launched in 2015.
The first Ghiblies short aired on April 8, 2000, and then the "Ghiblies: Episode 2" short screened in Japan in 2002 alongside The Cat Returns. "Ghiblies: Episode 2" screened in United States theaters in 2016 along with the 15th anniversary screenings of Spirited Away. Yoshiyuki Momose directed the comical shorts which are set in an anime studio.
