'The Drops of God' First-Ever Anime Adaptation Coming in 2026

◆ INTRODUCTION

The Wine Manga Beloved Around the World is Coming to Anime!

“The Drops of God” is a manga written by Tadashi Agi and illustrated by Shū Okimoto that appeared in Kodansha's “Morning” magazine from 2004 to 2014. Related works include “Drops of God: Mariage”, “Kaito le Vin”, and “Drops of God deuxième”. Combining the human drama over the legendary wine “The Drops of God” with writing that makes it easy for wine beginners to understand the story, it sparked a worldwide wine boom and earned renown from wine growers for its multifaceted and accurate depictions of the world of wine, selling over 15 million copies around the globe. In 2009, a live-action version aired on NTV, and in 2023, a joint Japanese-French-American production of “Drops of God: Season 1” was streamed. On January 23rd, 2026, Hulu will be streaming Season 2 with exclusive rights for Japan, and the show is due to receive its first anime adaptation as well as part of a new mixed-media effort.

World-renowned wine critic Yutaka Kanzaki has passed away, leaving behind a wine collection worth over 12 billion yen. His will states that his collection will be given to the one who can identify the origin and year of twelve wines he's chosen, the “Twelve Apostles”, and one that's superior even to them, “The Drops of God”. Competing for the prize are Yutaka's son, Shizuku, who received a world-class education in wine but rebelled against his father and has never drank a drop, and Issei Tomine, a young charismatic wine critic whom Yutaka had recently adopted as his son. What is wine? What is a parent and a child? What is life? The complex and fragrant battle surrounding the legendary “Drops of God” is about to begin...

◆ CHARACTER

Shizuku Kanzaki (VA: Kazuya Kamenashi)
Protagonist. He received a world-class education in the ways of wine from his father, the internationally famous wine critic Yutaka Kanzaki, but rebelled against his father and went to work at the beer company Taiyo Beer, avoiding ever drinking beer.
With the death of his father and the contents of his father's will, he enters the world of wine and joins the battle over the legendary “Drops of God”.

Issei Tomine: (VA: Takuya Satō)
A young and charismatic wine critic. Shizuku's rival, who was adopted by Yutaka before his death and enters the battle for his huge wine collection.
Proud and sometimes arrogant, but has dedicated his life to wine He maintains a stoic stance that can shock the people around him.

Miyabi Shinohara (VA: Maaya Uchida)
An apprentice sommelier. Has extensive knowledge but was struggling to pass the sommelier exam when she happened to meet Shizuku. To help make up for Shizuku's lack of wine knowledge, she becomes a contract employee with Taiyo Beer's wine division, and she joins him in the search for the “Drops of God” and the “Twelve Apostles”.
