Yeah, the plot was a bit sketchy near the end. I was thinking that she killed the dog so that the dog spirit would exact revenge for its owner that it had loved so dearly. However, she really was not very good with supernatural things so her plan backfired as the villian (forgot his name by now) took control of the dog instead.
Someone else will have to take a stab at the X question...
