What do you all feel about Tokyo Pop
Buying all the Manga from 1987 to 2002
to be translated and sold in the United States?

Will That Make you Buy More Manga?
Because of Price?
Because of Availibility?
Because of Convenience?

Will That Make you Buy Less Manga?
Because of Bad Translations?
Because of Monopolizing?
Because of Loyalty To Smaller Manga Companies?

Do you Feel....

That it Doesn't Matter How it Gets Here
Just as Long as It Does?

Or

That Translation, Content, are Doomed To Be
Lost Due To Huge Manufacturing Market?

First, my insight on the article itself:
It's more than likely a joke. TOKYOPOP is a decently big company, but to purchase rights for just under $100,000,000 is mind blowing, also to mention doujinshi? C'mon! And all from 1987? Phhfft! Not to mention that TOKYOPOP is an american company, and it is un-constitutional to become a monopoly (Bill Gates anyone?) and if TOKYOPOP reserves the rights to ALL manga, while it would not affect Japan, as soon as it hit store shelves on U.S. shores it's US government territory, thus all laws are applicable.

Now my oppinion:
If there is any one company that I would want to own every right to every manga scince whenever, it would be TOKYOPOP. They leave it unflipped, translate as close as possible, cram alot into a grapic novel format and sell it for a cheap price. Really, who else does it as good as these guys?

Yep, it's a joke. But the Scooby-Doo review is dead serious.

It's bound to be a joke... why else would Viz be releasing the Kenshin manga in Shonen Jump?

I was afraid it was real until I read to the end *relieve sigh*. Tokyopop is an okay company, but it's just not right if they actually did that.

IIRC, they announced a while back that a bunch of Musicland affiliates (Sam Goody, Suncoast, On Cue, etc) would be closing this year to comensate for poor sales...

That could be the reason. Or not. Confused

did kind of make sense, there never was much traffic in the store. Hell most of suncoasts business is anime related. why don't they make half the store dedicated to it. The suncoast near me, the employees are abit eccentric towards its, They still ask me for a subscription to new type. I keep telling em I don't have the down payment. Laughing
