@SundaySilence You know, as bad as WMAC Masters is by today's standards, and just plain silly looking when you have UFC on Fox, I'm not gonna lie. I'd watch it if it was on.
As for SVES and Midnight Run, they were still airing kids shows at the end of the day, as they should have, because they were targeting kids, the uncut airing of Gundam Wing way back when aside. Now? The block is called Adult Swim, so kids shows aren't going to fly. [Whoops at the quotebox. Sorry.] |

So are we going to have to wait until Cowboy Bebop and GitS do their full runs before they're replaced by something else? At this point, the only anime that will change out soon will be Casshern, and then a long wait until Samurai 7 finishes, and another few months until Cowboy Bebop recycles. Eureka 7 is a year long show, and so is GitS if both seasons are played...
Baby steps be damned, they're just stalling. I'm only still watching to check out Samurai 7 and Casshern's dub, but once that's done, I might be too. If they're still around in a few years, it might be worth coming back to. |

I gotta get back to this image, there was something that went over my head originally. So, lemme get this straight: HOTD and Tiger and Bunny and other "worthy shows," shows which have Horror and Sci-Fi Action/Adventure elements whatnot, are instantly dismissed cause they are Anime? Am I reading this graphic right? Is the person who made this nuts? Also, Batman: TAS did an incredible run on FOX KIDS (which influenced many future Batman stories and introduced to the DCU Harley Quinn), while DB/DBZ flourished first as a Syndicated property before landing on CN. So I have issue with them trying to justify that they could make it better just by airing it. The more I dwell into this and the more people try to counter-argue that Toonami is trying their best/is doing good/is best, and they pull up this s***, it makes you wonder even more if Toonami is one clever tax write-off for [adult swim]. |

No, I think it's worth mentioning. If you strip the anime genre tag from those shows, what do you have? Shows that have other defined genres, like.......Science Fiction, Action, Adventure, Horror, Fantasy, etc. So, i'm calling bullsh** on the graphic argument on those grounds.
It's kind sad that AS immediately discounts a good portion of it's viewership with bullsh** like this. At a time when they should be trying to prop up the ratings by listening to the fans and maybe taking some of their wants to heart, they go out of their way to sabotage it by themselves by not listening to the fans and justifying it. |

Whatever Toonami used to be is irrelevant, people have DVR and the internet now, and Toonami needs to try harder. |

Actually, part of the reason isn't AS's fault. They rely on an antiquated ratings system where according to now obscure and stupid maths, for every one household that is part of a specialist survey system, it "represents" 100,000 hoursehold or whatever BS number they decided upon. Given we have technology now that can instantly record info when people use DVR or special boxes that help change channels/whatever, it's really such a wonder why such technology isn't being used to get near accurate numbers. Which in a sense is kinda of sad. They're using numbers that is at best, throwing darts at a dart board and hoping one hits a post-it note. You have to wonder what are the true numbers nowadays with many shows. |

That... wasn't... even... what... I... just... said. And at this point, it's becoming harder for me to care about what you have to say. |

@SundaySilence Well that's the thing, they don't listen to their fans, and for that matter, they don't even try to get stuff that a casual audience would want.
You know how back near the turn of the millennium a lot of channels, in an attempt to ape both Toonami and Adult Swim would air animation blocks with no rhyme or reason to them? Spike TV was the worst about this with The Strip, but Tech TV was doing it to before G4 bought them out. But in both cases, they thought that just airing anime, regardless of what it was, or adult cartoons, regardless of quality or thematic elements, would be enough, and it wasn't. Toonami is suffering from that exact same problem. They should be airing High School of the Dead over kids shows. It's an action show, for adults. Not for children like Sym-Bionic Titan was and is. High School of the Dead wasn't cancelled because toy companies didn't want to make robot toys with a girl lead. That's the type of show they need. Also, just for fun, Fox tried airing Batman the Animated Series at prime time to adults back in the 90's. It was a disaster and quickly pulled. Why would High School of the Dead or Panty and Stocking be considered unacceptable but shows like that OK? |

I don't know if this is even relevant anymore, but two words: Kim Manning. She is (was?) the Adult Swim Programming Director at Cartoon Network. Alot of anime fans have decried her as the reason why [adult swim] has sucked when it comes to handling Anime. "Allegedly" she's abit of a **** when it comes to anime acquisitions and paints anime with a wide bias brush (i.e. Most if not all anime is all about tits and ass (fanservice) pandering to the audience). |

I recall somebody saying that AS mentioned they had issues selling fanservice anime to advertisers because of them typically using under-eighteen girls.

Didn't stop SyFy. Or Afro Samurai which had a full on sex scene in the Spike Tv version (oh Spike, has anyone watched you since the UFC left?) |

This coming from a program block that has no qualms to airing much more controversial material than a loli in stripper clothing. |

With reference to that graphic, the word anime needs to be added to their adjectives. Toonami shows nothing but anime. It is kind of disingenuous of their part to say Toonami is not an anime block, when they show nothing but anime during it. Don't think anybody expects Clannad or Air to ever appear during Toonami, but Gurren Lagann, HOTD, Panty and Stocking, or Soul Eater would fit their definition. Hell, they can show older anime if they wanted to. El-Hazard, Elemental Gelade, Record of Lodoss War, Godannar, and so much more. I just hate their attitude. It seems like they think anime is a 4 letter word, despite the entire block being anime. Along with that insane graphic, they now feel the need to explain the difference between a critic and a hater during the commercial breaks. They did the same during Adult Swim too, insulting their audience. I call it "circling the wagons', which means they have insular thinking, and really could care less what their audience truly thinks. Which is why I was truly surprised when they announced the rebranding of Toonami during Adult Swim. I am not going to beat them up over what they are showing, because any anime is better than none, and I was happy with Deadman Wonderland, and Cassharn Sins has grown on me, despite its slow pace, really reminds me of Ergo Proxy. But I will beat them up for their insults to our intelligence and their outright insults. Toonami is an anime block, because that is all they show during it, could care less about what type they show. |

@TarsTarkas I on the other hand will take their shows to task. I think Adult Swim, judging by their continual failings in keeping any sort of anime audience outside of Bleach (Toonami's ratings have taken a nosedive since Deadman Wonderland ended) really just doesn't get that a lot of these shows would do well with casual audiences.
I always think that's what gets lost in the mix, casual audiences, and that's why airing kids shows on the adult block is so inept. You would have to think that she shows cannot be that repulsive. Going back to Spike, they did air Afro Samurai. After a UFC fight card no less, and it was a big success. If anime due to its very nature was so repelling, that would have been impossible. Long story short, it's not anime that's at fault here. It's the shows they pick up, and the disinterest that they breed. Having a CGI robot admonish the "haters" for wanting Panty and Stocking or Black Lagoon instead of Sym-Bionic Titan and Thundercats, not only kids shows, but failed and cancelled kids shows at that, is just ignorant at best, willful disdain for the audience at worst. And if that's what's being offered, why not go all the way? Why not just air whatever kids show is available (WMAC Masters or Legends of the Hidden Temple or whatever) to fill the time? |
