A few weeks ago, I finished watching the entire seires of Full Metal Alchemist, as well as the Full Metal Alchemist movie. The ending of the series was open to interpretation; until the movie was released, that is. The ending of the movie has again left the storyline open. I find myself wanting to know what happens next, if spoiler[Ed and Al just spend the rest of their lives in the other world, or if they eventually return to their own world.] I personally and sincerely hope that spoiler[they return to their world, since the other world will soon be engulfed in total war.] Plus, Ed still has to recover his arm and leg, and he and Winry have not yet confessed their feelings for each another.

What does everyone else here think about the Full Metal Alchemist anime having come to an end? I myself am hoping that the creator(s) of the series create a sequel in two to five years, seeing that FMA is definitely one of the most popular anime series in both Japan and America right now.

What is everyone else's opinion on this subject?

There is a movie soon to be release in the US ( I think October which really helps to not only tie up the loose ends but also bring a final closure to ths show anime#4176
I had the chance to see it recently and it was so good. Not to say that I thought that series ending wasn't. I thought that series could of ended and that would be that, but hey when there a chance to make money gotta take it huh? But at least I am glad that the movie isn't all in vain, and has some meat to it. It is really a great movie, hopefully you get to see it.
Till next time,

Out of all the manga i've read and anime i've watched, most anime take the unfortunate aspect of not living up the the original and wind up being not as good. FMA is one of the few anime i've seen that is much better than the manga. I personaly love the ending. If they left it, it would have been fine. Dont get me wrong, i liked the movie, but i would have prefered if they left it open, because sequals tend to do terribly and i realy dont want that to happen to Full Metal Alchemist.

The storyline is pretty much at the end of its line, at least from my perspective. To create a sequel, there would have to be whole new conflicts and a new storyline. The events in a storyline affect the characters. Creating a new one would change the characters. You'd have to admit creating a whole new issue for the FMA characters to toil over would be a little strange...I'm not sure how to explain it, but it wouldn't really be Fullmetal Alchemist anymore.

If you want more FMA read the manga, the manga is at volume 13 in Japan and is not done yet so that's what's left. The stories diverge around midway through the animes series and about volume 10 or so in the manga.

I don't remember Ed and Winry showing any signs that they have feelings for each other. I always thought that they shared a 'sibling" kind of love, as if she was there cousin. However, I finished the series last August, so my memory isn't the greatest.

Personally, I thought the ending to the series was good, but they spoiler[didn't achieve what they wanted]. I thought that was kind of sad.

As for the movie, I thought it was great. My brother and I were discussing that it had about as much action as the series. Also, the movie's ending was happy for a change. It was the only happy thing that happens to the boys during their whole story. As for them spoiler[ going back to their world, they destroyed the Gate, so that no one could ever go through it again.] Also, you talked about spoiler[how there was going to be a war engulfing our world. The reason Ed said he wanted to stay in our world is because he wished to protect it.]

Those are my ideas about FMA.
