Yeah, not exactly getting the hate lol. I'm a guy and I'll totally check out this show. Kyoani does good work and if they bring a good story and/or characters to the table? I'll be there
I think it would be pretty awesome if there was some way to keep track of male/female sales on shows as well I bet the numbers would surprise us on a bunch of different series.

Great. That's what I was hoping for/expecting. Keep 'em coming with the insanely catchy OPs/EDs KyoAni!

I still find it amazing that a single Anime announcement can have this much interest.
Ignoring the complaints from the morons who say that Kyoto Animation should not be making a Fujoshi-targeted show, I wonder why Fujoshi themselves (as well as guys like Chagen46) are so ecstatic about this Anime. If it was a girls' swim club then most guys would have been pretty excited but that would have been it. But because the characters are boys, the female fans on both sides of the Pacific have been extremely happy, some to the point where they sound like they are creaming themselves.
I ask this in all seriousness: are Fujoshi and Fudanshi so starved of good shows about pretty boys so as to latch on to anything that looks high-budget? I've heard the stories about Uta no Prince-sama and they aren't kind. Yet it somehow sold like hotcakes, as if Fujoshi are so desperate to watch cute boys they'll buy something bad in order to encourage other similar shows.
Because if that is the case - if fans really have been starved by Japanese producers - then I'm happy for them. First of all, it's fun to watch the Moe fans squirm. But more importantly, I'm genuinely delighted that Kyoto Animation are servicing a segment of fandom that doesn't usually have well-made shows catering for them. If guys can have their sex appeal shows (and lord knows we have enough of them each season) then so should gals; it's only fair.
And who knows? It might be good enough that people can watch it even if they aren't there to ogle the hunks. That would be nice; I've always wanted to watch a Sports show that focused on competitive swimming. Getting bored of football (soccer), baseball and tennis, to be honest.

I forgot all about that. Even though it was mostly known for the music, the scenes involving swimming were very important in the show.
Now that you mention, would it be a far-fetched idea that these guys may actually sing either within the show or in the OP/ED? Given their idol-like appearances, I can see this having a musical vibe at least for one episode. |
I have no problem with them making this show (honestly why would I. I pretty much have zero problem with any company making what they want whether I like it or not) but I can really see the show being overhyped and being touted as much better as it is due to the whole drama over it.
It could be that good, but I just hope people review this (and anything for that matter) with the rose tinted glasses off.

Still struggling to read people's posts I see. You really do need to get your eyesight checked out.

Your post was basically devoid of actual content.
Also UtaPri is pretty great if you like utter ridiculousness.

Other than the fact that the character designs in this show look like mature young men and not 12 year old girls?

oh my god, this thread is making me want to puke in my mouth.
I wasn't interested in this show before but if it's going to rile up a bunch of neckbeards who boast online about wishing for a show about grade schoolers in swimsuits, I say BUY ALL THE MERCHANDISE. I'm officially stanning out of spite now.

Hm. I actually am kind iffy on the character designs--they're hot, but I preferred the original ones in the CM.

That Swimming CM did what companies usually pay focus groups to do. Lucky for KyoAni. Their usual audience had been pretty much crapping all over their last few projects. Lackluster sales as well, maybe indicating to them that their audience lies elsewhere.
Now they will be crapping all over this, but at least there is a lot of favorable feedback as well, which makes for a whole bunch of free, fan-made publicity.
A back burner project got bumped up to "priority" status. And sports anime go over pretty well with the mainstream audience, so the possibilities are there as well.
It's good business.
On a personal note, I'm hoping for some really nicely animated swimming sequences. I love sports anime, and from what I've seen, sports series are pretty popular in Japan. If KyoAni does this right, they could break into a mainstream audience, and all those talented animators could develop the studio into another Ghibli. That would be cool.

Again, eyesight. I was congratulating female fans on having some decent eye candy for a change.

'So bad it's good' is not the same as 'good'. Learn the difference.

Yes, because high school boys look exactly like incredibly cut and toned 20 year olds.
TOTES REALISTIC

For the same reason that boy fans (and lady fans who are into otaku-type anime) get really excited when KyoAni announces a new cutie-girl anime like K-ON or Chuunibyou: a really neato studio who can portray "cute" like NOBODY'S BUSINESS making a show about characters they think are cute! KyoAni is always a big deal.
It's so bizarro to me that the people who love K-ON and other shows like that are hating on this, and people who are excited about this are hating on K-ON?? Like others have said, they look like basically the same thing: total cuties having fun with really sweet animation. We've all gotta realize that we're the same inside and then hug it out and join forces like the good lions and evil lions at the end of Lion King 2!!
