Well, we certainly had some interesting closing months to 2006, and an interesting opener to 2007 here on ANN. A new format to ANN, improvements to the encyclopedia (?), and new staff members, including more moderators. Over these past months, how have these changes appealed to you as a person who is a regular user of ANN, be it the encyclopedia, a forum poster or just here for the news.
To me, I like the way they have worked out the encyclopedia, because certain places I wanted to go in the encyclopedia seem more accessible now than before. I think the new format for ANN itself is good, though I still have some issues with certain technical things, such as the fact that we are no longer notified if we have new pms or not. And THREE new moderators. I can't imagine how tempest and Zac happened to pick out THREE, but I'm sure that TK and Nagisa are appreciative of it. Action towards locking spam or not so good threads seems to be quicker, which I would imagine so now that there's five mods patrolling the forums now. Overall I think the improvements to ANN are appealing in a good way for me. tempest has announced that there's going to be a new encyclopedia system coming sometime soon, so I'll be waiting to see how that one turns out as well. fighterholic |

You aren't getting notified of new PMs? I am...Huh?
As for the changes, I'm one of those that will grumble, bitch and moan about the changes. But, once I'm used to how they work, I'm like a new convert And as for the new mods...well I think all 5 are working out just fine. There have been damn few spam ads that I've seen recently. I think that all of the new stuff is working out just fine! |

Hmmm... try checking your personal profile. That's in the forum tab, among the links at the top of the page, marked profile. Check to see whether you have "Notify on new Private Message" and "Pop up window on new Private Message" enabled. Could be the settings were jiggled somehow when the site was updated.

All upgrades in design and layout of the website have been very successful. The HUGE anime advertisements on the top and left side of the screen (ah, I see it's Le Chevalier D'Eon this week) bothered me a little at first, but not so much anymore. I'd rather see well-designed advertisements smartly integrated with a nice-looking layout than an ugly website that looks like it's from the age of the dinosaurs. (ANS, I'm looking at you.)

I like the weekly (or more) polls. I also noticed that a few of you have neat new avatars. I especially like Cloe's new avatar, and can't imagine abunai changing his.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the ad skins to be honest. Usually that is the kind of thing that really bugs me, but ANN needs to make money somehow and if it can do it in a pretty and inoffensive way then that's okay by me. And it keeps it interesting if it changes regularly. The Chevalier D'eon one is ok, except for that portrait of the skull which always distracts me as I scroll down. |

I admit that the ad skins can be slightly troublesome for me (I hate sidescrolling), but otherwise the new changes for this year are overall great. Congrats to the ANN staff, and good luck to Tony, Nagisa, Zalis, Selenta and Keonyn. I know being a mod is hard, so you'll need all the luck you can have

I've thought they've been pretty good for the most part aside from some of the glitches that have come with installing the new setup. I didn't mind the Air Gear and Coyote Ragtime skins either but I must admit I'm not to fond of the new one for Chevalier, it just doesn't seem to flow with the rest of the site, it contrasts too much.
It took a little getting used to, for awhile I kept looking for the menu on the left but now that I'm used to the drop downs up top I'm happy with it. Honestly if they tossed the menu back on the left side I'd probably have to get used to that again. Of course, one of the biggest complaints I've heard involves the side scrolling and issues with the layout not fitting in the screen. I haven't had to deal with that as I run at 1280x1024 and it looks perfect at that res. I also like the new Shelf Life layout, it really did need an update and I like how it feels more like an article now while still providing enough visuals to allow the user to easily navigate to the review they're interested in if that's what they're looking for. The roads been a rocky one at times with a few bugs and glitches and the site running slowly after the new layout was added but all in all I'd say it's still for the better and will likely only improve as they iron out the remaining issues. |

the new layout with the tabs was jarring at first, but now that I'm used to the setup, I find I like it better than the old sidebar. (Although I have had to sacrifice about half the width of my brower's favortie links bar to keep from sidescrolling when I come here.)
I really don't like the ad skins for far. It's mostly becuase none of the series advertised so far I find very visually appealing, and I'm getting tired of staring at 'ugly' anime characters. (I know I can change it, but since it just goes back to the ad skin on my next visit, I've decided it's too tedious to keep taking the time to change it.) This Chevalier one is the worst so far. Here's hoping ANN gets to advertise something I want to look at everyday soon! |

Done. Thanks I think the skins are okay. They certainly make themselves stand out especially if you have a big screen for your computer. |

Well, I like an group of eyes on anime based games so I don't get stuck with another $50 coaster. As for changes to the site layout, I can't see myself change back to the old version. I did take a little while to get use to, but most things in life do when it comes to changes to something you are use to.

It's a huge difference from last year, that is for sure.
I'm loving the new tabs in the upper right, as well as the login. I was pretty hip with the solid blue background, as opposed to this Le Chavalier D'Eon backdrop. But this will change with other advertisements, no doubt. I have to say that it is the best setup actually. Great work everyone! |

Thanks. I can't remember a time when abunai wasn't Ojisan from YKK. It's comforting to know that some things will never change. |

The one thing I don't like is having to open the tab to get to MyAnime list, other than that I'm really ok with it. I wasn't a fan of the new layout at all, with the advertisements going (and thus the rest of the website is a little narrower and easier to read), I really like it.
The MyAnime link is really a minor annoyance as it takes me all of 1/2 a second, but I'd personally prefer to not have to navigate anything when I want to use one of the most used parts of the website. Very petty, I know, it just kind of irritates me on some level below the disappointment I get when I pick up the 2% milk (Oh no! Too light!) and have to put fat free milk in my cereal instead. The site feels pretty bare when there is no visuals or bar on the left, I guess that's just a conditioned thing, but when ANN has one of the advertisements up, I really like the way the site looks and functions as a whole. Rather intuitive, quite efficient, and it's all functional. |

New avatars for veteran users who almost never change their avatar always feels really weird, and is in some ways as big of a change to me as a whole new site layout. As far back as I can remember, Zalis had his Shannon avatar, and I was really surprised when he changed it to Nanaka, and I barely could recognize him for a while. Lucky, the Nanaka avatar didn't last that long, so I wasn't too taken back when he changed it again to the guy-girl from I Me My whatever Strawberry Eggs. Same with HitokiriShadow, I thought he was going to keep that Cagalli avatar forever.
