Didn't you complain about them not editing Kill Bill?

Yep. You can see the hypocrisy in that right there.

Gaiman is awesome. Sad they didn't give Mononoke and Gaiman the respect they deserved.

Going a bit off topic here, but a lot of Gaiman's books would make awesome anime/manga.

Missed that thread, I believe they DID actually... the b&w scene was not supposed to be, and the biting of the lip was cut out too... but that is a little OT...

As for Mononoke, thank God they did not cut it... I think it turned out much better than if they had, even if it got a wider release.

Now thats what I'm talking about. Why not just write a whole new anime off of one of his books, instead of rewritting other stuff?

I haven't read any of his books though so I couldn't say much about them.

Judau: Tarantino always envisioned a different version of Kill Bill for different markets, so he deliberately "edited" it so you could pay for it again later. But essentially, he got to keep it at the length he wanted, and even include the Japanese in there, when a lot of Asian directors have to re-dub and edit their movies. I wanted to use Princess Mononoke as a prime example of that, because despite a contractual obligation, Weinstein was still ready to put it under a knife. (And I'm beginning to wonder if it wasn't his dubbed version which failed in the Twin Cities...)

Don't know about them being evil, but I know they weren't to bright in marketing/advertising the Pokemon movies they had the rights to.Pokemon's "fading" popularity wasn't the reason why movies 4 and 5 didn't so well at the box office. It's because Miramax decided to give both movies a limited release. There are movies out there that are so much more expensive to make and that are the cream of the crap that manage to make anywhere between 5-10 miliion dollars thanks to a wider release.Obviously, those movies are considered HUGE failures.*coughGiglicough*

All they've got to do is dub the move (4kids),and it wouldn't cost much to give the movie some average advertising.Back in 2001,I saw more commercials for a "Veggie Tales Movie" than "Pokemon 4Ever".And neither had that much commercials to begin with.I think I probably saw 1 commercial for Pokemon(anywhere between 4:00-5:00 PM) and maybe 3 commercials for "VTM"(anywhere between 4:00-8:00PM) in the span of one day.Hell,I was even more surprised when I found out that VT was a christian cartoon. Shocked I thought it was just some crappy uninspired CG animated movie that would be lucky to make $5 mil.To my surprise, this Christian(it's already single-ing itself out)CG movie pulled in about $20 mil. 20 million would be considered a big success for Pokemon nowadays. The problem is that the studios are still living in 1999-2000(the years the Pokemon craze was at it's highest) and still expect the movies to pull in lots of money. And if it doesn't,Pokemon MUST be "dead".

In Japan this summer, they sold around 200,000 advance tickets to the 6th Pokemon movie. The movie itself(which I believe took around $3 mil to make) pulled in about $20 million.A 7th movie is already in the works too.

So,if anything is to blame for Pokemon's lackluster results at the box-office lately,it's Miramax's crappy advertising.

BTW,I sometimes think Miramax is purposely trying to screw Pokemon over.(which doesn't make sense since they'd be screwing themslves Anime hyper) For some reason, they pushed back the "Pokemon Heroes" DVD release(which was supposed to be out December),to a January release.O_o Geez, almost everything sells better during the holiday season. Why in the world would they make that kind of decision? Man,I sure hope thay had a good reason for it....

I'm not a fan of Pokemon, but in its defense, the last movie has some of the best animation of the franchise. Nonetheless, it failed on its own. Miramax was giving away cards at each screening, and kids just weren't interested. Yu Gi Oh just killed it. The only merchandise that's still doing well at all for Pokemon are the videogames.

Man,I doubt the kids even knew that a 5th movie was out.~_~ Both movies 4 and 5 were released on about 200 screens in the whole U.S. And if that weren't enough, the 5th movie received even less promotion than the 4th one.One HAD to do his research to find out where, when, and even if the movie was playing in a nearby city.

It's safe to say that mosty the hardcore fans of the series went out of their way to see movies 4 and 5.It's funny that you mention the card giveaways because I heard that most places weren't even participating in the promotion.I could care less about the cards though.:/

It's true that Yugioh is 4Kids' main cash cow nowadays, but it didn't kill Pokemon. Both are still quite profitable for 4Kids.But it seems to me that the Yugioh craze is burning out even faster than the Pokemon one IMO.
