Yeah, my thoughts exactly.
The weirdest thing is that I can't actually remember if I've read this before or not. The hair-shaving story sounds extremely familiar, and I know I've read some of Fuan no Tane, but that's about all I can remember for sure. I'd like to check it out and refresh my memory, but I just don't love reading digitally.

Technically, it was the final condition on his strength, as his powers were tied to his being a Nazirite (someone who took on a set of abstentions for purposes that aren't specified in the torah). He drinks and touches a dead body earlier in the narrative.
