Fifth, actually. Aside from this movie, Howl's Moving Castle, Tales from Earthsea, Arrietty and When Marnie Was There were all based on books by western authors.

Yeah this was a sure GKids get, as is Hayao's upcoming film.
Can't say I'm intrested in this at all, as none of Goro Miyazaki's films I have particularly liked, though I am glad Ghibli is experimenting with 3DCG. I'd love to see them playing with even further animation styles too, though I doubt it.

A telefilm goes to the big screen in North America. Get ready for animation errors in longshots!

This is definitely their second time adapting Diana Wynne Jones' work though. I hope this means Ghibli is back to making movies again beyond Miyazaki's upcoming film. I do wonder if this was always planned to be broadcast on TV or did COVID19 change any plans?

I think it's the former. If the movie was planned to be released in theaters, then the release date would've most likely been delayed instead of the movie moving to a TV broadcast.

If you re-read the earlier part of my post, maybe you'd get it.
