Surprisingly, this is my favorite game of the year. It's a very well designed asymmetrical and the most fun I've had with any kind I've played.
Particularly, the huge maps and wide range of options help a lot. Survivors have a lot of different ways to navigate and evade, and each Raider has varying strategies.
I will say I agree that it doesn't explain enough to the player. Even the "Manual Robo" on the hub doesn't tell you what individual items do. (For the record, you can communicate by marking items with LB/L1, holding it to mark areas with a message, or use emote stamps)
It does make me nervous people will play the game, get kicked around for a while, and then write it off as junk without understanding what's going on. If you don't mind dying a bunch while you learn though, you'll find a very unique, addictive experience.
...now this is the part where I'd link a guide explaining the stuff the game doesn't, but amazingly there doesn't seem to be a good one out there, so maybe I'll have to do that myself...
