On the other hand, as you said, the latter camp of people who say that creating AI art “democratizes,” makes it more available to the common people who can't express their creativity through art—I don't want to take that away from them

I do. because they're not creating "art". They're creating slop. No matter how "good" it gets, it's heartless. It doesn't really benefit anyone. The comparison to the washing machine is completely different. Clean clothes is something everyone NEEDS. People don't "need" art in that same sense.

Yeah i agree, creativity using AI art or AI animation is just very poor to me. In theory, i see what he means, but when the theory is put on the test, its just comes out poor and just scrapes what it knows or got its data from, it dosent have style or sense of personality, thats why when we see AI art or animation it just has that look, that bland look of just no substance.

Then on top of that, washing machines never put anyone out of jobs or threatens to put people out of jobs, its very convenient, and most of all, it at least serves a purpose. AI art or Animation does not have a purpose and if it does, its just to fill the ceo's pockets while enshitifying everything else. Then at the very least, a washing machine has a future and gets better with functions while AI future is just going off of investor hype, and other things that are very uncertain

I find the "self-expression" argument hard to swallow when these AI programs are trained on other people's art, which more often than not isn't credited to the original artist. Not to mention a lot of AI art makes people look completely lifeless. That's not actually expressing yourself, that's just making soulless facsimiles of other people's work. I'd be more charitable towards someone who tries to express themself through art they actually made on their own, even if it's amateurish.
