So... I wasn't expecting that ending for the episode.

Is this going to be a parody? I'd actually like to know.
Because if it is, it would be a crime if they don't do a crossover with, I guess this title should be spoiler tagged, the show spoiler[Sengoku Collection]. That show had a very strange premise and a similar "event" early on. But if you didn't take it seriously, was just a bunch of episodic fun, just pretty uneven. |

I know! Except for the title, they didn't foreshadow that guy in the turkey costume with the sawed off shotgun at all!
Wait...did I forget to put the spoiler markings in? Well, okay, that wasn't a real spoiler. But the real ending didn't do a much better job of staying in the lane, as it were. My own real reaction was spoiler[Huh. I'm kind of relieved honestly. I was afraid this anime might do something to get me to give it another chance next week, but it was just another run of the mill CGDCT with a bowlOH MY GOD, ARE THEY BEING ISEKAID!?! No! You bastards! ] |

Episode 1
I will not bore (pun intended) people with why what is going on at 10:55 is doing things the hard way. PM if anyone is interested (yes, I own a copy). Why would lighting strike at the bottom of a trench (footing excavation?) instead of the top of the drilling rack or the trackhoe boom? Besides the missing comma, Themes will need to be updated with either "fantasy" or "science fiction". |

Actually, I was enjoying the show even before the hairpin curve at the end. I guess you could say I was... *wait for it* ...BOWLED over, hahahahahahahaha!!! Plenty more where that came from, folks. Anyway, definitely intrigued. |

So there's a new trailer for the show, for the second episode. Looks like no parody here. Bummer.
The new trailer makes it pretty clear that this is a spoiler[ time travel to the warring states period ] show. But no truck-kun, instead it's the true power of belief in sports (?), I guess. Aided by magical lightning and an ancient half buried bowling ball. While quality of the first ep animation is quite good, I'm going to have some problems with that premise. But I have to give it another ep or two to see if they play this completely straight. I can't turn away yet. |

Welp, I went in hoping to add another calming slice of life/CGDCT to the list and got something rather different by the end. Seeing the reactions here it seems some like the twist and others not so much. I fall in the latter camp since the actual premise is not something I am interested in.

I certainly wasn't expecting that plot twist! Another thing that I found interesting about the show is the fact that the writer is apparently a fan of Rumiko Takahashi's Maison Ikkoku since all the girls share last names with characters from that show.

I wonder if we will have the girls eventually return to contemporary Japan and learn to get along as a bowling club?

I don't even remember where I got those original genre and theme tags from. But I've adjusted them, for now.

It's hard to put my finger as to why, but there's something charmingly retro about this anime. It's incredibly ridiculous, but I bought in. I wanna know how crazy they are gonna get with it.

I'm onboard, too. I love that they used their bowling prowess (and other tricks) to execute their unlikely rescue of Hot Sengoku Guy (?). I love the little comedic touches like 4 of the 5 girls deciding it wouldn't be a good idea to go back to "his" house and then Blondie is already arm in arm with him walking off. |

I wasn't too enamored with the first ep, but after the second, I guess I stick around for awhile. I'm still trying to figure out how all their bowling bags and balls got isekaied with them, since none of them were holding on to anything but each other when they got sucked into the time warp. Likewise, when they ran away from the goons, they were empty-handed, but had all their baggage when they regrouped in the forest. Clearly some magical magnetism going on, or no continuity editor on staff.

My favorite scene in this episode is when Sayuri effortlessly picks up and carries the still tied up Suguri over her shoulder. It isn’t actually that surprising considering that the average height of a Japanese man during the Sengoku period was only about 5’1”-5’3”, which is apparently the average height for modern Japanese women.
