Do we have any details of how much of the manga, the anime is supposed to adapt per episode? They have been needing to at least double if not go to the industry standard of tripling it for a very long time.

The last two episodes were more or less still only one chapter per episode (1157 adapts a couple pages from the following chapter but that's it). Don't expect the pacing to get any better

Wasn't a major reason why they finally made the show seasonal is that with the decrease in the amount of chapters per year going down and the length of each chapter going down. They finally were just flat out not able to "keep far enough away from the manga" and have enough material per episode. Also yes they wanted the anime to actually look good which takes time that is impossible when you always need a new episode each week
Im just confused why they finally made the change if they still dont want to adapt over a chapter an episode because the anime has more episodes then the manga has chapters unless you do one pace

They actually confirmed awhile back that it would mainly stick to one chapter per episode. I figure the only way we’ll ever get consistently more than that is if they put the show on break for over a year, but I doubt Toei will ever agree to that.

Wait...did the encyclopedia really create a separate entry? That seems exceedingly silly.

Considering how a little too much has been happening in each chapter for the last few years, sometimes to the detriment of the narrative, I think that sticking to one chapter per episode will be good to make sure there's enough breathing room for each event.

This pretty much hasn't been an issue in the manga since the end of Wano years ago lol

IMO, some chapters in the big flashback coming up had that problem…at the very least there are certain characters who deserve more screen time.

Did they ever say that was the reason? I remember people online saying that, but I don't remember ever reading an article where the company said that was the reason.

I think it was less about the pacing of the anime and more about running out of manga. Oda takes a lot more breaks now so only around 35 chapters come out a year, they tried to make up for it by having a million recap episodes but it probably was easier to just go seasonal

Three chapters an episode is hardly the industry standard. Frieren consistently does 2 and My Hero did 2 for most of its run. Every series is different and One Piece in particular is just REALLY dense for content. The last episode for example really didn't have them dragging things out much and they only just covered a chapter and a bit. At its fastest One Piece would probably be 1.5-2 chapters an episode.

The manga still has more chapter, if only just. We're just hitting 1180 with the anime coming up to 1160.

Don't think that's the best way of putting it. Elbaph arc started on chapter 1126, and has 54 chapters (55 tomorrow). The anime, due to fillers, slow pacing, and whatnot, will finish at an episode count higher than the manga's chapter count if they adapt one chapter per episode. There would still be a decent gap at the current rate, especially with taking six months off a year now.

I get that ongoing anime apparently must respect the sanctatity of manga and only touch them after two years have past as Haruhi suzumia decreed on her sermon on the baseball diamond so many decades ago.
But even with oda say doing 30 chapters a year now. That is still gonna put them even further behind the manga. I can understand i guess wanting to wait and have more of an idea of where the story is going before adapting it..... but this is getting ridiculous. If they really wanted to let the manga get further ahead or finish the arc first then just freaking take more time off and let oda work. Its not like there aren't many other one piece things happening.....ohhh right toei doesnt get money from those....so yay toei says we need you paying attention to us instead even if it's because we are screwing over sanji and whitewashing all the black characters

It's really surprising to me that Toei opted to do a couple cours per year of one piece instead of continuing to remaster the timeskip arcs. Even though some parts of the remaster were incoherent I was looking forward to seeing something like Dressrosa with a new coat of paint.

I've been of the opinion for years that the format that a lot of older series had (with a bunch of fillers and/or bad pacing just to remain on the air while the manga gets further ahead) isn't preferable. It ruins the quality of the anime more often than not.
Growing up I didn't really understand how fillers worked until I was about 40-50 episodes into the Naruto fillers before Shippuden, and immediately stopped watching and just read the canon material since the quality decrease was obvious and not enjoyable. One Piece I don't even watch anymore unless the anime reached a moment from the manga I found particularly enjoyable (like Gear 5's introduction, Zoro vs. Hody, Law vs. Doflamingo & Fujitora).
Obviously, they're not going to stop though. One Piece generates a ton of money for them, and to keep it going as long as possible is the most profitable route for them (since most of the fans just eat it up no matter what).
