Keep in mind that I would like to see these animated not necessarily as an anime. Animation is just a much more freeform medium than most.
I have to echo Riss with Piers Anthonys Incarnations of Immortality (tasty little pun) series. Death, Time, War, Fate and Nature would make great, in-depth characters for an on-going show. I also have to echo Ian on Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game. I think the story lends itself best to animation, though a feature film has been in the pipeline for a few years now. Okay, now I personally would love to see some of H.P. LoveCrafts stories put to the anime (specifically anime) form, as the source material is wonderful for the medium. His lead characters rarely survive their ordeals with their sanity intact (DreamQuest of Unknown Kadath is one of the few exceptions). And the stories are just rich, terrifying and of the utmost quality, great material. Also, this isn't a novel, but DeadLands: The Weird West's main story arc would be a spectacle of climactic proportions if put to animated form. This is actually a roleplaying universe from Pinnacle Entertainment Group. Not a good candidate for anime as its heavily steeped in American history, legend and myth laden with Wendigos, Native American Mysticism, Steampunk technology aided by an arcane fuel (Ghost Rock), cataclysmic events, supernatural powers vying for dominance and a Civil War thats still going on in 1877 because of some crazy sh*t that went down at Gettysburg. The guy that runs PEGinc, Shane Hensely was actually in discussions with Cartoon Network about adapting it to an animated series, but this was pre-Adult Swim, and they didn't like the idea of the gunplay and the spiritual side of things. Maybe that could change now?
Huh? I liked the some of the elements of the '84 film better, but not many. First of all, "The Weirding Way" was portrayed all wrong. Focusing sounds into blasts of energy? Sci-Fi's Dune portrayed it correctly, it was more of an enhanced movement thing, which is why the Fremen were trouncing the Saudakar troopers. They both had their pros and cons, but neither is a substitute for the novel. Just my opinion, though. YMMV. Sorry to ramble, there's my $0.02 Syker Seven |

I think Holes would make a good anime laugh if you want but that would rock the movie version though not the book. Another choice would be scarface it was funny enough seeing Al picino protray a cuban since he's itallian. Seeing the japanese try an create a cuban character would make me laugh my butt off. Plus seeing all the fights in anime style would kick major butt. Not to mention the final fight plus it would probally have the record for most cocaine sniffed in an anime.
I'd go to therapy if I wasn't so pissed off by how stupid the world can be. |

Anything by William Hope Hodgson. His novels The House on the Borderlands and The Night Land were influences on H. P. Lovecraft, in the same sense that the Beatles were influences on the Monkees.
The Gormengast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake would make a wonderful anime in the unlikely event that it were done right. Miyazaki could pull it off. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. There's an anime titled Lolita, but it's just porn. V by Thomas Pynchon could provide the basis for one or many exceptional animes. |

I'm not sure if this has been made into an anime, yet. But, I wouldn't mind seeing "The Crow" made into an anime series or movie.

Saw some comments an Frank Herbert's "Dune" being animated... and no. It just wouldn't work. It's too slow paced, frankly, and to do it justice it would have to have two hour episodes.... and about fifty of them.
Any number of the Star Wars novels would do well, though... |

Another thing that should be made into an anime:
Anything Monty Python. And I'm all for some star wars novels being animated. |

Hey, that'd be 100 hour-long episodes. Hour shows like law & Order work well enough. I'd certainly watch it each week. ^_^ Now then, I do have some others that would be interesting. For instance, Lawrence Saunders' McNally series of novels, Alistar MacLean's short stories "St. George & The Dragon", (which would most probably be most entertaining if you had Kousuke Fujishima doing the character designs and Shinichiro Watanabe directing) "Machinery and the Cauliflowers" (a great story that I can't describe without giving it away, but involves a Scotsman and a heroin dealer in Hong Kong) and "Rendezvous" (BONES. this one is all yours). And finally, as a collector of the series, it'd just be fun to have the original adventures of The Hardy Boys animated. Heck, if Sunrise would look into it they could probably turn it into a hit. |

I want Production I.G to go to William Gibson to either get him to appart one of his books or write a whole new story for an anime.

I would like Production I.G. to make Deborah Christian's book/novel Mainline made into an anime, I'm nearly finished with the 145 chapter book, it's GREAT. She's become my new favorite author now.

I was just looking through all my books today, and another series of novels lept off the shelf at me for this subject.
The Starfarers series by Vonda McIntyre. This would be a rich source for an anime series (deffinately not a movie, too much good material). Anyone here ever read them? |
