I watched about 3 episodes of this before I could stand no more: The limited animation and budget shortcuts, plus terrible DIRECTION (uneven editing, pacing, action also was blocked really poorly IMO)... it left a horrible taste in my mouth and instead of reminding me about what I enjoyed about season 1, it was just painful to watch: I kept hoping the "the next episode will be better"... but after 3 I could take no more.

We're talking stills with shaking pans and background noise to depict "riots" and nearly flintstone-esque background looping during car chases, and that's just in episode 1.

Are you talking about the same Artland that did Mushi-Shi? Confused

Anyway I am happy about this news, since the first series really needed to have some sort of completion to it. However I am disturbed and sort of scared now with all this negativity towards it. I guess people aren't liking the art and animation very much, but what about the story? For me that was always the best part about Gunslinger Girl. I guess I am just having a hard time that the animation could be THAT bad. I hope they release the first episode online so that I can see for myself whether it is within my tolerance levels.

It's not as terrible as people make out, just your usual mediocre anime series. I figure it was the disappointed expectations that's pissing everyone off - it's not really much like the first season at all.

its not that bad its just that GSG1 raised the bar too high for this one to keep up with.

i bet if this was released first people would be all over it. then if the 1st one got released after people would be even more excited for it.

So that show I saw was real. I thought it was a joke.
I'm probably going to wait for the boxset on this one, I wasn't happy with what I saw.

I'll be honest- when I saw the picture I thought of Asuna from Negima.

Wow, I haven't seen either Gunslinger Girl season, but I have been thinking about checking it out. Is the second season really that bad though?

I guess I'll have to see it for myself if I ever check out the series. I know a fair amount of people didn't like the second season of Higurashi, and I've enjoyed that so far at least.

That's pretty obvious since anyone who has seen season one will recognize it right away. I have yet to watch the second season and I know that people say it's really bad, but I still plan on getting it.

I was SO disappointed when I watched the first episode of GSG2 and realized it was a pathetic imitation that pales in comparison not only to the original, but basically every other recent series.

Especially considering how long I had hoped for a sequel.

Trust me, if you liked GSG, you won't like the sequel, unless the only thing you cared about from the original was loli girls shooting people, and even that part isn't 10% as good as the original.

GSG2 is basically just lolicon otaku fan pandering of the worst denomination. On the other hand, the poor budget and fan pandering is probably the only reason GSG2 was able to be made in the first place.

Really aside from the limited production values (which is one of the last reasons that would make me dislike an anime) is the second season really that bad? I mean, didn't the series creator worked on Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino- while he didn't on the first adaptation?

Despite the cheap-looking production values, this sequel actually has an arc that the story is striving for, and thus the pacing of the story is treading along pretty solidly. Heck, from flipping through the original manga, this anime is really following the events in manga almost to the T, and it's pretty engaging. It's really too bad that Madhouse didn't get to do this sequel.

Actually, as a huge fan of the GSG manga, I'm enjoying Teatrino. Now, I won't rank it higher than the first series, but people over-exagerate just how 'moeified' everything is. I'm happy that the girls act more true to their manga counterparts and it's always cool to see more of the Pinocchio story animated.

i've been getting Japanese release as this is a MUST BUY series for me...

bought 2 different Japanese release for first season...the PS2 game with the TV series and the boxset...

the character design was a quite different and made the girls look much younger than first season but still the storyline is excellent and kept the voices same...

i hope funimation does another great dubbing to this series....

if they do have the license....

if that was the cases, the hairties should have little bells as well...

Yeah, the character design was definitely a change, particularly Rico for me. Also, although most do sound like the voice they had in the first season, there are different VAs for almost all characters.[/quote]

In that case, it will be interesting to see if they manage to keep the same voices from the original season for the dub.

You might want to check out this blog. The author really liked the second season.

That said, the first episode is pretty bad. I'm amazed that the first R2 DVD has only that episode on it. They must have pretty sure of their market to do that. Very Happy
