During a few year of fansubbing I've been translating credits for most of the anime we were subbing. I've been considering adding them to the database, but it's quite a lot of work, and I'm not very comfortable with the DB yet, so maybe there is someone else willing to take this task. I have translations for the following anime:
Sokyuu no Fafner Genshiken Heatguy J Hime-chan no Ribon Jubei-chan 2 Mao-chan Megami Kouhosei OVA Narue no Sekai Popolocrois 98 Princess Arete RahXephon OVA Ayatsuri Sakon Stellvia Scrapped Princess Tenchi Muyo OVA 3 Aoi Umi no Tristia Wolf's Rain For most of these I have fully translated opening credits (usually listing main staff), and the cast in the ending. Princess Arete and Megami Kouhosei OVA have all the credits translated. In the text files I have credits in Japanese along with translation (except for Megami Kouhosei, Japanese text file was lost, but I can make screenshots from the video if needed). What needs to be done: 1) some ordering of the staff positions translation (like ekonte, I used to translate it as "animation continuity", but switched to "storyboard" later on) 2) some crosschecking, especially for earlier anime and the less important positions. I tried to confirm as much readings as I could, but there are probably still errors left. If you're interested, reply here, leave a PM, or contact me on IRC (roxfan@ETG, aniverse, irchighway, efnet). |

Thank you, that is a really cool offer. This ties into something I've wanted to do for a long while. The encyclopedia has the ability to automatically translate kanji for names and for staff tasks. For example, go here and then try adding the name 宮崎駿 with the task 監督. You'll see that 監督 is automatically converted to "Director" and 宮崎駿 is automatically converted to "Hayao Miyazaki"
Now, using that feature and the multi-input mode, you could take a bunch of lines from your text file, paste them into the multi-input box, and: > if a name is translated and matches what you have in your text file, all is good > if a name is translated and does NOT match what you have in your text file, we have to find where the error is > if a name is not translated, open a new window, find the romaji name in the DB and add the kanji name, then click "Verify informations" once again and it should get translated > if a task is translated and you agree with the translation, all is good > if a task is translated and you do not agree with the translation, we have to agree on a new translation > if a task is not translated, we have to agree on a translation and I'll do the kanji-to-english association ...and of course, after everything has been translated there's the possibility that the info is already in the database. Like you said, it's a lot of work, but if you use the multi-input mode it'll go a lot faster, and there's a lot of people here with good Japanese skills who can help either with translation issues or with entering the data. |

Wow I didn't know the DB can do that. This is really handy. I'll try to get around adding my stuff then.
