I am going to be doing a Anime birthday party in July I already know I want to keep some guests around later in the evening and watch some anime.

I was wondering about what colors of balloons and table clothes and mostly main color theme.Because I am not doing something like pokemon or anything like that it will mostly be a fun idea I have and since I am 23 and its going to be something fun for myself I want it to be mostly colors and some music and some cosplay dress up and such even some dancing and music hopefully.

So I am looking for some cool ideas I was thinking colors like pink purple and things that would glow neon under a black light.

I was thinking about doing it evening and have it outdoors and having it on july 4th so I can include the firework we use in our yard.

And ideas would be great full.

I would also like to know the cheapest places to buy lots of cosplay items like cheap wigs and accessories and such since it will be my first cosplay I want to include some of my cousins.

THANK YOU Very Happy

[EDIT: Moved your thread to the Anime forum to get more attention, and potentially more tips. -TK]

Are you having a lot of friends stay after that are really into anime? Because if you're into it and they aren't so much, then it kind of defeats the purpose of making the party anime-themed.

If you and your friends are really into Japanese culture, though, (not just anime) I would drop the balloons and tablecloths and go more for Asian-influenced decor. I used to have friends over for get-togethers that may or may not have involved anime, but we served a crapload of different sushi, Japanese seaweed, some sake, Chinese dumplings, and my mom's recipe of broiled chicken and sticky rice. Around our age, I figure the actual decor like art, colored tabletop items, and such wouldn't be as important to me and my friends (who are mostly guys anyway), so you may not want to think too hard on that one, unless all of you just really like that kind of stuff.

The music could work if you have an iPod and some kind of docking station or device that can play it through loudspeakers; maybe fill it up with OP/ED themes, remixes, or songs by artists who have sung for other anime, or even some of the background music if you and your friends are as nerdy as I am.

Not sure about the cosplay idea, as really good cosplay takes a lot of work, time, and money to make it look good. But if you want people to wear something, maybe you could make party favors or something for everyone to where? It'd be quicker than making your own costumes and a lot less to think about before the actual party. Plus, it'll be summer, and unless you've got a great air conditioning system, cosplay and hot weather are not a good combination.

For my 21st I had a Japan themed party instead of something more specific, because a number of my guests were not interested in manga and anime. It also made the colour scheme really easy (red and white).

It was outdoors for the most part so I put nice paper lanterns in the trees and on the verandah railings. I played Japanese music, and served Japanese sweets (for actual food I served Western finger foods, as very few of my friends enjoy Japanese foods).

I also asked people to dress up in something Japan inspired if they felt so inclined. I dressed in my yukata, one friend dressed as a Japanese school girl, one dressed as a Pokemon trainer, one dressed in items she bought from Tokyo Disneyland.

I know my post was a little long winded, but maybe, if you don't have a lot of friends who are interested in anime, you can make your party a little more general like I did. Maybe then you could have a selection of anime on hand that you can play in the background. People can check it out if they want to, or just keep socialising : )

I hope this helped.

How about hiring a projector (or two) to hook up to a computer, and playing a mix of cool anime clips (maybe action-y scenes?) on blank walls? And doing it to music while people dance? If you made a little montage lasting 20 minutes or so and looped it, I would think it would work well. (You could even download pre-made AMVs.)

I remember a great Russian-themed dance party I went to once where they did that with silent black and white Russian movies and it was so atmospheric and cool.

If you have a Party City anywhere near by, they have a great selection of wigs and costume accessories. They don't have anything anime-specific, but if you have some characters in mind, you could probably find things that would help, as long as you're not trying to get too detailed or accurate with the costumes. Smile

This party sounds like it will be awesome...hope you have a blast!

you could type up a bunch of anime characters names and put them in a hat and people can dress as who they pick. then everyone can guess who is suppose to be who. ( youll have to hand out a list of all the names too) you still have enough time you could probably order anime paper plates and napkins for the party too, then get ballons to match those. at local stores in the US youll probably only find pokemon yugioh and beyblade party stuff.

for something to have on the TV you could make a youtube playlist of all your favorit anime openings, this will help to provide music too. assuming your TV streams youtube, or you can hook up the TV to it. since most opens are 1-2 min you can also throw some music on the playlist too.

i would recommend against doing a marathon, if you want an active party (dancing, laughing etc) playing a movie near the end of the party to calm things down could work.

Just make sure you get streamers too! balloons alone are lame. Balloons + streamers = FUN!!!!

its best to avoid colors that are darker orange is a good black light color, so is yellow. blues and purples not so much unless they are really light. when you get the balloons + streamers anything thats "neon" should do well under a black light most grocery stores sell these balloons over by the flowers you just have to ask and the streamers are over by the bakery (near the birthday cakes) unless they have a special party isle section.

OOO thats another thing you can do get a special cake. most of the bakeries ( the ones by me do) will take any picture you bring in and put it on the cake. so find a cool anime pic and do that (or settle for the pokemon cake they have in their catalog) im not sure what medium they need the photo to be so you might have to ask. if they scan a picture ask if you can bring them a Jpeg on a thumb drive, depending on their scanner it might not provide a good quality.

as an event you can buy a box of rice and some sea weed wraps and have a "who can make the most perfect looking rice ball" contest.

if your into samurai / sword anime get some PVC pipe (min 3/4 inch diameter) and some of those pool noodles you can make some make shift swords to have fun with. you'll need a roll of duck tap to. (you can get duck tape in colors and some react to black lights) your first thought will be to just force the PVC pipe through the noodle dont do that because the noodle isnt solid and its easy to rip through it. what you want to do is cut through the radius of the noodle all the way, stick the PVC pipe in that (with a little hanging out for a handle) then wrap the noodle with duck tape to make sure it stays on.

last bit of advice i have if your going with black lights a few of those light balls complements the black light nicely. and skip on a strobe light, strobe lights are fun but tend to cancel out any other fancy lighting effects you might do.

hope your party is a hit let us know how it goes Very Happy
