So Viz is releasing 3 art Book in the next few month:
The Art of Shonen Jump: One Piece Color Walk - Nov 8th, 110pg, softcover - 14.99 Rurouni Kenshin Character Profile - Nov 1st. 200pg. softcover - 14.99 Art of Fullmetal Alchemist - Nov 1st. 90pg hardcover - 19.99 These are 34% off if you get them at amazon.
What's great about these being domestic is the consumer don't have to pay extra high prices for shipping the imported japaense version. Also you are now able to browse it at the store too. All text would be translated also. I'll probably going to pick up all 3 art book since they're 20 and under. Do you think Viz will put out other art book like for Naruto and so on. We need more doemstic art books. Tokyopop also releasing Justice N Mercy by Min-Woo Hyung who does Priest. The art in Priest are fantastic and the story if you haven't check it out is epic that span across 3 generation.

They already have an art book for Naruto, I've seen it at Borders/Waldens. |

Keep in mine that the Naruto art book you're refering to is probably an imported item at Borders because there is no domestic release for it yet or none that I heard of. Therefore it can be more costly plus the text (if there were any) would be in japanese. However, I seen it on ebay for about 18 bucks with 8 dollar shipping. Uzumaki - Naruto Illustrations Art Book
This is the version I want Viz to release so I don't have to pick up the Import version. Last edited by hagakure|returns on Mon Aug 15, 2005 7:06 pm; edited 4 times in total |

Well you can pick up any imported japanese art book for about 20 to 50 bucks depending on the page/quality. I just pick up the Samurai Champloo Roman Album for about 30 bux with 4 shipping at animebooks. The point is that we're finally getting domestic art book with nice text translation instead of having to import them online. If Viz's art book are successful, I would love to see release a Takehiko Inoue artbook in the future. if anybody's intersted, there's this nice artbook site Last edited by hagakure|returns on Mon Aug 15, 2005 10:50 pm; edited 3 times in total |

I'll pretty sure we'll be seeing that Naruto book in English down the line. On amazon, the One Piece art book is listed as "Art of Shonen Jump: One Piece Color Walk." If they bother to pull it under this "Art of Shonen Jump" line, then it's possible that they might release other SJ artbooks.

Is the Kenshin artbook under this moniker? I'm definitely getting the One Piece artbook. I'll need to see Kenshin and FMA, but I can see myself buying both as well. I've flipped through the Naruto artbook up for discussion, but I've never been a huge fan of Naruto's artwork, so I probably wouldn't buy it, even if it were domesticated. What would have me sold would be an Hikaru no Go/Obata-sensei art collection. Man, that would be worth owning. Cheap domesticated artbooks are definitely an awesome thing I'd like to see more of in the future. I'd still like to get the CLAMP and Koge-Donbo artbooks I've seen, but I can't justify spending the money on them yet despite how much I enjoy looking through them... |

No, which I find strange. The amazon listing refers it to a profile book.... Perhaps the Art of SJ label is only meant for those running in the magazine?[/quote] |

Over the past year Darkhorse has been putting out tons of products by Katsuya Terada (I'm assuming they want to build him up a stateside following like they have with Shirow's Intron Depot), and they're finally going to release one of his artbooks around the new year, in addition to putting out his manga adaptation of Saiyuki next month. The guy is an amazing artist, with beautiful and diverse illustrations and an bizarre sense of style. There's a great French site with alot of his pictures on it, but many of them feature nudity and general weirdness, so I'm not sure about linking it (google it if your really curious).
As for the Viz artbooks, I'd consider getting the One Piece one (maybe). I like Kenshin and Fullmetal but their art styles, while very solid, are really nothing amazing (that's just my opinion though). |
