It would be nice if MG could pick up F/SN. I mean there's a full translation out for it and everything so it would mainly be getting the group to agree to hand over there translation if MG got the rights.

I just want some hope of F/HA coming over here or getting a full translation.

Personally I say MG should work out a deal with Witch-Hunt so they can get the translation for Umineko. I mean WH basically has any digital copy of the game sold via the Japanese c.o with their translation on it, and they don't make any profits from it.

i dunno, maybe i'm little jaded, but $30,000 doesn't seem like that much. keep in mind i live in a province of 1,000,000 people and we have an annual 24 hour telethon that raises $3,000,000 - $5,000,000 every year.

Where exactly do you pull this stuff from? I'm guessing you've never watched a Spanish or Italian channel for a prolonged time, have you?

What are the odds that a ton of spanish talking people and Italian people go to english websites to talk about One Piece and not other series? Are you honestly suggesting that Italians and Spanish speaking people don't like Negima, Soul Eater or Fullmetal Alchemist?

On Hero Tales: I was excited when I heard Hiromu Arakawa worked on it and was all set to buy all the current volumes but decided to preview it by buying a copy of Yen +. I'm so glad I did that because I found it extremely boring.

On Visual Novels:
I'll admit that I am a person who thought that all visual novels were porn. Well at least that all visual novels (except for the cut versions) contained some adult material. This is one of the reasons why until now I have never given any visual novels a chance. That plus I didn't even know where you could get them. I'm assuming all of MangaGamers stuff is on PC? One title I would absolutely buy if translated is Air (PG version Anime smile) because I really love that anime and want to know the whole story. But yeah, Key and cut versions, not sure how good the chances for a release of this game would be.

I've been interested in Higurashi for a while now but am not too keen on spending hours in front of a computer (or console equivalent). Can anyone tell me if the manga (released by Yen Press) is a faithful/decent adaption? I'm fine with the fact that the atmosphere wouldn't be as good as the VN due to things like music and stuff, I just want the story Anime smile

Oh if a cut version of Fate Stay Night (can't remember where the "/" goes in the title >.<) was released I'd buy that too Anime smile

Visual novels: When I first watched Fate/Stay Night, I had a HARD time believing it was even based on one of those non-games. It looks more like it's based on an RPG. As for When They Cry, I first thought it was more like one of those old school murder mystery games for the PCs where you just click on stuff and gather clues.

Visual novels don't even qualify as games. Clicking through menus with pictures is not even gameplay. Games are supposed to have gameplay, not be glorified choose-your-own-adventure novels.

Halo? That's a game. Oblivion? That's a game. Final Fantasy? That's also a game. Zelda? Again, also a game. Mario, Metroid, Sonic (The new games are always going to be infinitely inferior to the old ones), Unreal, Final Fantasy, Crysis, Call of Duty, Secret of Mana, Doom, Duke Nukem, Diablo, Xenosaga, Black, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Quake, Crash Bandicoot (Only the Naughty Dog games count), World of Warcraft, Dragon Age, Guild Wars, Counter-Strike, Contra, Half-Life, Portal, or Pac-Man? All those are games because they have actual GAMEPLAY. Visual novels don't have that, hence they are not games. (Why don't the Japanese play FPSs like we do? What do they think is going to happen?)

The following games listed by Weiss_Yohji are visual novels (or non-games as he labels them): Oblivion, Xenosaga, Dragon Age, Final Fantasy.

Then again, his ignorance is showing by his claim that visual novels don't have gameplay.

And, re: FPS and the Japanese... They don't play them because they prefer a game with an actual story.

Oblivion, Final Fantasy, Xenosaga, and Dragon Age are RPGs. At least those have actual gameplay. You and I must not be playing the same games.

FPSs don't have story? Come back and say that after playing Halo, Unreal, Far Cry, Bioshock, or Wolfenstein!

@Weiss_Yohji ^ hey to be fair there are some stat building element and mini games in some visual novels, so they do have some game play if you play the right one. =v= frankly i prefer them with out any mini games or stat building though cause with my limited knowledge of Japanese it makes it harder to play. Princess Debut for the DS had a rhythm based game to it. Desert Kingdom had the Roulette part to it, one of the no Kuni no Alice has a card game in it that you play with joker, Otometeki Koi Kakumei Love Revo!! has the whole stat building part where you have to level up your stats to get the end you want.

That being said I don't really mind not calling them games. \( ' 3 ' )/ it's just the easiest way to describe them to the people who never heard of them.

I actually quite like Visual novels, if the characters are amusing or the plot is interesting enough. Just as long as they aren't to text heavy like Hakuouki. To many words i couldn't read, even during the spoken part Saito and Hijikata in particular used a lot of words i didn't know xD

If Manga Gamer picked up an Otome Game I might actually buy from them. But alas I'm clearly not their target audience. I'll just keep working on my Japanese.

The vast majority of visual novels are RPGS. The fact that you're completely ignorant of the gameplay element of visual novels is painfully evident.

But then again, you're too busy proclaiming your idea of what a game is to even open your mind for a moment.

If I wanted to level my stats, I'd go play the Elder Scrolls games or any true JRPG. At least you can mod Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim when that one comes out. When's the last time you ever found mods for a visual novel?

Not to mention all the game-breaking tricks you can do. Since that part is a bit long, just look on TV Tropes and you'll see what I mean.

RPG VNs aside, I've also played VNs with gameplay elements includign puzzle solving, quick time events, strategic army battles (Koihime Musou is one of those), fighting, stealth, and even an FPS.

I'd imagine sometime in the future, I hope, MG will publish an Otome Game. Perhaps the best right now is to support them by buying a game that's "close enough." VN's that appeal to me are strictly otome type or female protagonist ones but I'm tempted to try Kira*Kira. While it's not an otome game, the prot. is girly and one of the female characters becomes the protagonist for a short time, and has heroines. I get recommended Kira*Kira whenever I detail my VN interests because it's kind of a mix of genres. They are cutting out an entire demographic by releasing strictly male-oriented content.

If you go to Anime Expo, stop by their booth and politely express your interest in Otome Games. If they get convinced there's enough interest out there, then they should have no reason not to comply. However they advertise themselves as a bishoujo game producer, but that doesn't mean they can't be female protagonist games like the one I played recently and thought was wonderful.

Could always join us on the MG forums in requesting otome games. I'm a guy and even I'm interested in them.

Soul Link has a female protagonist near the end, but it's only for an epilogue. You do get to play from the point of view of a female protagonist in one of the Higurashi answer arcs too.
