Does anyone notice a trend where in certain adventure animes, the main character will set off to find or follow in ones footsteps? For example Gon in Hunter x Hunter sets off to find his father and become a hunter like him, Luffy in One Piece sets to become a pirate like Shanks, who saved his life when he was younger.
Now I'm not saying ALL of them are like this, but certain ones are.

This form of story-telling has been around for a really long time now. Some of the times, not only do they follow someones foot steps, but end up surpassing them and beating them in a one on one duel.

Heck, even a series as cute/innocent as Snow Fairy Sugar has this device, where Sugar wants to become a Snow Fairy like her mother, while Salt decides not to follow in his father's footsteps and elects to become a Cloud Fairy rather than a Sun Fairy.
And by the way, on the "possible spoilers" warning in the subject--it doesn't say what the thread spoils, so it doesn't really serve any good to put it there...it would be better to just have the subject be "Following in one's* footsteps" and then put, "like in One Piece, this and that and that other stuff happen" , with spoiler tags. Now, if the thread title was "The end of Elfen Lied (spoiler warning)," then it would be a good idea to put the warning in the thread title.
(Not BSM, I swear, just suggestions)
* "one's" is possessive, so I added the apostrophe
