I apologize in advance if this has been posted before, but if it has, my meager searching skills can't find it. And since I have little or no knowledge about the world of anime, I'm turning to you guys for help.

I was looking to check out Sakura Wars/Sakura Taisen, but I don't really know where to start. I have not played any of the games that it's based on (and probably won't until they officially come out in the US), and I have very little knowledge about the series to begin with.

All I can find online are the chronology of when the stories take place, or when the DVDs were released. Can anyone tell me the order in which they should be watched as a new viewer? Is there even a need to watch them in any particular order? I realize that it's supposedly more of a show for those that enjoyed the games, and is not very forgiving to new viewers, but I'd still like to give it a look.

Thanks for any help.

WELCOME!!

This is MY personal preference for watching Sakura Wars:

1. Sakura Wars OVA (Sakura Taisen Ouka Kenran OVA)
2. Sakura Wars OVA 2 (Sakura Taisen Gouka Kenran OVA)
3. Sakura Taisen: Ecole De Paris (Sakura Taisen: Ecole De Paris)
4. Sakura Wars the Movie (Sakura Taisen: Katsudou Shashin)
5. Sakura Taisen: Sumire (Sakura Taisen: Kanzaki Sumire Intai Kinen~Su Mi Re~
6. Sakura Wars TV (Sakura Taisen TV)

I included both the American Titles and the Japanese titles (as I know them) just in case you know them differently than I do.

Ecole De Paris is probably, in my opinion, the most difficult to understand because it seems to pull directly from the video game and seems to expect that you know it. But it's still a fun watch!

Oh, the reason why I put the TV series last is because, to me, while the general storyline is similar to the OVAs and movie, it just doesn't...blend well with it, so I just treat it like a completely seperate storyline.

I personally watched it in the order of OVA 1, TV Series, OVA 2 and didn't get past that yet. Either way OVA1 and the TV series are very different, while OVA 2 is something that happens after both (new chracters gives that part away). As for the other 3 parts, I'm not too sure about that myself, but I usually suggest extras after the series just in case there are spoilers and whatnot.
