I'm not sure if anyone has visited this webpage before:

While it interestingly does break down the kanji of man and ga, though I would usually write man as 'irresponsible' rather than 'aimless', the date is very strange on it. It was first used in 1951 according to the dictionary; where does that come from? I was under the impression that as a word it was used since the 18th century, as some of Hokusai's paintings appeared under the name manga. Though, in that case, it was not used to describe a comic book of course.
