Right off the bat from episode one this series has proved itself to not only be extremely interesting, it's just damned funny. I'm loving every aspect of it's loonacy - from the twin brothers who feign homosexuality to their bonkers leader who obviously is infatuated with Haruhi. Episode four (the girl from France shows up) had me rolling on the floor from the moment they called her an otaku to till the credits rolling.

Very high expectations of the ending at this point =)

You won't be disappointed, oh no.

It's a wondrous gem of an anime.

I laughed at this anime at least as hard as I laughed at School Rumble, and that's saying a lot. Mind you, the French otaku manager girl (Renge-chan?) is one of the funnier gimmicks in a while. And Haruhi is a fresh take on a heroine, too. spoiler[That doesn't stop her from capturing all the hearts of everyone in sight like most heroines do, though!]

OHHC is my current unhealthy obssession, I even imported the dvds because I couldn't wait for the show to get licensed and ordered the manga, since it's still ongoing and the anime left me desiring more.

This is the first and only comedy I have rated "Masterpiece".

I am pretty sure that every one of the first 24 episodes I actually laughed out loud, because I couldn't control myself. I've never seen such a consistently funny show besides Family Guy (not to compare the two shows on any level... just saying), but Ouran has much more to it than the comedy. As I wrote in the "trying not to cry" thread, I was bawling during the last episode, and I'm still not quite sure why.

(Well.. I gave Haruhi a masterpiece... but that wasn't for the comedy)

At first I gave it a Very Good. I liked the comedy, but it felt a little over the top/way too cute and seemed to be more so for the rabid fangirl side of the crowd.

After taking a two-month long break between episodes 16 and 17, however, it didn't seem so bad compared to stuff like Air or Fullmoon wo Sagashite.

I rarely give pure comedy series a Masterpiece rating, with the exception of Azumanga Daioh, and prefer these kinds of shows to have a little more drama or vice versa (a la GTO, Kare Kano, and Honey & Clover).

But thanks to the last 2 episodes I was able to experience what I had hoped for, a great comedy with a balance of seriousness, and thus gave it a Masterpiece after all. spoiler[ I had been wanting to see something happen between Haruhi and Tamaki, and sure enough it did.]

Aside from that, though, the comedy still feels over the top at times, but I like the chemistry all the characters have with each other as well. Throw in the situational comedy (a la School Rumble), the superb quality of music (I love orchestrated/classic tunes), and those subtle moments of drama along with it, and you've got quite a series.

Ouran is the only comedy anime I have given a masterpiece rating to since Excel Saga.

At first, I thought Ouran was just pretty funny and kinda different, since the plot revolved around one girl surrounded by a bunch of guys instead of the other way around. Then, the characters started to grow on me, and Ouran became my weekly must-see (and, at the risk of sounding like a hopeless fangirl, it didn't hurt that Tamaki has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen! Embarassed ). But it was the last two episodes that really made me fall completely in love with the series.

I know I'm not the first person to rave about the ending, but it is definitely deserving of praise. It gives the story enough drama and tension to make the resolution really resonate with people's emotions (or at least mine, anyway, because I was sobbing like a little schoolgirl). And the structure! The structure is just incredibly well thought out; while the characters do grow and develop within the series, everything still comes around full circle at the end, and it all gets topped with a shiny red bow. **goes starry-eyed**

I won't even go into all the possible symbolism that the writers used spoiler[(e.g. the pumpkins, the opera glasses, and one I'm still working on -- the use of water as a metaphor for love in the Tamaki/Haruhi relationship)], but suffice to say that Ouran is a masterpiece in my book!
