If you like the manga, there's an movie adaption of series. It looks interesting, but has not gotten good review lately.

Since we're on the subject of Ikki manga being adapted into films/TV series, Sexy Voice and Robo is apparently being turned into (ugh) a live-action drama staring the guy who played L in Death Note. I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say this is going to suck. I just don't see how a live-action TV show (especially one that I'm assuming is taylored to a large audience) can capture the charm of Kuroda's storytelling.
Oh, but Freesia looks pretty cool. Jiro Matsumoto's style isn't exactly easy to replicate, but a good director could definitally do it justice.

Judging from previous efforts to adapt manga to the big screen (Uzumaki, Saikano) I'd prefer it if they left the series alone. Still, Freesia could make a good movie (I never listen to reviews when it comes to movie-adaptations of media I'm already familiar with). After all it's not all bad news on the live-action front: Miikes Koroshia 1 turned out quite good imo, and I even thought Death Note had some value.

I've become a big fan of Asian dramas lately and I haven't been let down by the ones that have been adapted from manga (NANA, Mars, Hana Yori Dango 1 & 2, and Nodame Cantabile). I do generally think that drama series are better than movies though, because they are able to tell more of the story than a movie, which understandably often has to cut a fair amount.

I would think Matsumoto's style has been... "toned down" for a live-action movie adaption.

... That pseudo-bishounen is playing Robo? Robo?

...

Holy shit that's gonna be awful.

Dramas may work with melodrama-oriented stuff like HYD or Nana, but Sexy Voice is probobly the worst match for that kind of show. Most of the manga's appeal comes from narrative style and the way Kuroda tells simple little detective tales with a dash of quirkyness and slice-of-life sensibilities. I just can't see a weekly live-action drama capturing his style. You've still got the brilliant characters, but considering the casting choice for Robo (originally he was a 20-something dork) they're not on the right track there either. Just can't see how this one is going to save this.

Your probobly right, unfortunatally. It would have been awesome if Miike had directed this, but I'll give Kumakiri a chance under the assumption that the surreal elements will be toned down (I hope he keeps the totalitarian over-tones and the black humor intact though).
