Looks like more of the same Machinima trash with better animation.
I hope Bang Zoom isn't doing the audio on this one. Their work on the Machinima shows was terrible from direction to sound mixing.

Is this supposed to take place in G1 continuity, or does it just use the old G1 designs as its basis?

Can't have Impactor without the rest of the Wreckers. Hopefully they will appear.

Rooster Teeth and everyone’s favorite studio in the whole wide world, Polygon Pictures.
Competent would be a pleasant surprise given those two.

Also disappointed by Peter Cullen's absence

I thought it would be related to the games based on the title, but apparently it's its own thing.

So much hate for Polygon Pictures but it looks good to me, I'm really looking forward to it.

Have you bothered to see Star Wars Resistance and Gen:LOCK?

So is this like a prequel to the original series? And you can count me in as also disappointed they didn't bring back Peter Cullen to play Optimus Prime. The new actor sounds like they're trying too hard to be a soundalike that it comes across as distracting.

I mean, I'm not a fan of Polygon or Rooster Teeth's CG output, but this is Transformers. It kind of works when they're all robots already and it's the humans that look and move unnaturally robotic that's the issue.. My favorite Transformers series of all time is Beast Wars and that was very early 90s CG so this is totally fine. The only real complaint I'll say is it looks to dark. Like, not tone-wise, but actually dark. Everything was a gloomy night scene and a bit hard to see everything on screen. I get they're going for the typical 'gritty Netflix show' here, but it's overkill.
Voice cast is fine, I actually don't like Peter Cullen as Optimus, as sacrilegious as that sounds. He always sounded more like a wise old mentor than a field commander leading a war. I preferred Garry Chalk for that reason back in the day. This one sounds okay. Honestly I was never a fan of G1 Transformers, I grew up with Beast Wars and vastly prefer that. I'll give this a shot though. Hopefully the writing is good although I'm expecting a lot of dreary and serious stuff but maybe it'll work.

Well he is not just a field commander, he is literally the chief of the entire Autobot army & every single soldier looks up to him as a being of wisdom, guidance, & leadership. He is much more than just a field commander, especially to the bots fighting personally alongside him for so long. Plus he is usually one of the oldest bots in the war & is always shown to be extremly tired of being at battle for millions of years after having the position foisted upon him so he’s supposed to sound older.

The fps isn't quite there but it works in the end due to these being robots. The 1984 puppet Terminator moved way jankier so I´ll just call this a Ray Harryhausen homage. Rooster Teeth is bottom tier but this looks quite good and is, more importantly, the kind of content any of the live-action films failed to deliver. "S1" is even 2 hours long.
But shouldn´t the big guy still be Orion Pax or at least not a Prime? You know... so that character development can happen. I can forgive that but why is he a truck? That´s even more wrong for young Optimus. Hm.

Yes and no. It's inspired by the original cartoon series without being a slave to it. It takes place in the final days before the Autobots leave Cybertron (which was the first episode of the original cartoon). The sequel (Earthrise) fills in their exploits traveling through space before finally crashing on Earth.

This was entirely by design. The role of leader chose Prime, he didn't choose it. He was just a dock worker (or a file clerk depending on the continuity) before fate intervened. Cullen wanted to voice him as a mentor and role model inspired by John Wayne and his own older brother. Prime's battle prowess, knowledge and wisdom comes from the Matrix, not from being a career soldier so he doesn't have that kind of mentality or demeanor. It's a different kind of presence. On the other hand Optimus Primal was a career soldier and a ship captain by the start of Beast Wars and Chalk voiced him as such.

After the simply excellent Transformers:Prime and the sequel Robots In Disguise, these Rooster Teeth-backed efforts look unnecessary and amateur. I watched the first five minutes of one of those machinma videos and was awestruck at how bad it was. This trailer is much better but still reeks of game cut-scene rather than a stand-alone animated show. Also agree that G1 vehicle designs on pre-Earth Cybertron is...pandering, at best.
But eh, I guess if you need more Transformers, there it is. Me, I'll just rewatch TF:P if I get that nostalgic itch from my childhood. I mean, damn. Look at that cast: Cullen, Combs, Welker, Blum, Ironside, John freakin' Noble. The accomplished writing credits: what little was good about the Bayformers came from Orci and Kurtzman, and Kline is no slouch either -- these guys are to Bayformers what Dave Filoni is to the Star Wars prequels. The cinematic score by Tyler Bates. The *coherent story arcs* that both advanced Cybertron's story but dug deep into its past.
Just a few of the minor things I don't see in these more recent budget efforts. When people say Netflix shows are mediocre filler, they're talking about this sort of thing.
