i was just browsing through the anime index and noticed something:as far as i can tell there's no thread about Naruto!
this show is just so cool! the character designs, the characters themselves, the music, the action, the drama. there's never a dull moment. so far i've watched 46 episodes and am eagerly awaiting the next.
what do you think of this series? who's cooler, sasuke or naruto? how did kakashi-sensei get his sharingan, is he related to the uchiha-clan or not? what do you think was the series' coolest moment up till now? and so on... let me know what you think, that'd be cool

There have been a few topics, but mostly dealing with its status. As for Kakashi, I believe his skills come from one of his genin group, who upon his death, Kakashi took the eye from in order to avenge the Uchiha clan with their own weapon.

I read the manga in Shonen Jump, and I love it. I love all the techniques they use and stuff like that. The doppelganger technique is awesome. Since I read it in Shonen Jump, I'm fairly behind, but I think my friend is watching it.
To quote her, "L-O-V-E-M-E, SASUKE!" [very much like Fruits Basket..;;;]. But I love Sasuke and Naruto equally, because they're so different. )

I am unhappy with the Viz translation. The techniques have been given some horrid new names. Art of the dopplerganger is actually the Shadow clone technique. In fact all dopplerganger techniques are named clone techniques. Almost every move is a technique with no-jitsu thrown at the end. Ninja centerfold is named sexy-no-jitsu, Ninja harem is harem-no-jitsu. I feel the name changes are real irritating.

sasuke is pretty cool, but i like naruto better. he's more open and funny. next to that, sasuke is very talented and popular while naruto's exactly the opposite. still, naruto manages to surprise everyone and he pulls through at the right moments.
he's got spirit (kokoro) and won't give up easily, and should he go under he will do so in a blaze of glory. i like that attitude
on another note, which is one of the scariest ninjas in your opinion? gaara from the sand village is pretty freaky, but orochimaru (the snake guy) is downright scary to me

Sasuke's brother is a better villain. Personal revenge is more engrossing than being a hero and just wanting to be strong for strengths sake.

another reason to watch this series! i expect sasuke's brother to be another interesting villain, although he's mentioned only sporadically.
it's true, revenge makes a very good and interesting theme. it also gives sasuke more character and makes him more sympathetic. i like his character the more for it.
although i have to disagree with you about naruto only getting stronger for strengths' sake. he has this burning ambition of becaming the chief ninja of his village and be finally recognized by the people of his village who looked down upon him and shunned him since he was little. that's a pretty tough objective to reach and he needs strength to do it.
anyway, it's just a matter of preference really
a shame i can't get a copy of viz's shonen jump anymore. i'd have liked to read the naruto manga but my comic store can't get it anymore due to licensing problems (aarrrrrrggggghhhhh!!!)

Heh, the brother won't show up for at least a year in the anime, and that's in Japan. He is just showing up in the current graphic novels released over there. He is a very effective villian and hopefully will be done right in the anime and by whoever brings it over.

Got to love Sakura new hair cut. ^^;; As for translation, I won't go by fansubs as for sure translation. Then again, I won't go by Viz at times. *L* But too bad I don't need to buy the graphic novel since I have the Jumps to read. Oh well.

He comes into the story for a little while (I think it was around chapter 140 or 150) but he quickly fades away. His story arc still hasn't been finished. I hate when a story starts and never finishes.

this week i started my first job after graduating. it's good to be busy again and so far i really like it, although i miss the time to regularly check the replies on this thread and to just browse the board (not to mention other things). but things will balance out eventually.
anyway, still haven't seen episode 47 wherein hinata fights her cousin (or something like that). it's ironic isn't it, that he's got a crush on sakura who doesn't share the same feeling while hinata is nuts about him and he doesn't even notice it.
ataru: i like sakura's haircut too, but she's still got that temper
btw, i like the way ninja techniques are explained by basing them on chakra energy. it's a reasonable explanation and more plausible (although it's still anime/manga) than let's say ... mithrochlorians (or whatever) as the base for jedi skills.
maybe i'll try training my chakra's too. having a clone/shadow of myself at work while lounging on a beach on the seychelles, now there's an idea

The Naruto anime is extremely, unbelievably, excessively SLOW. It just drags on. That's why I don't necesserily think it's the best around.
The Naruto manga can probably be defined as a "masterpiece". It's fast and great. The anime has lost that fast pace.
Favorite character: ITACHI UCHIHA!!!!!
