Youmacon? I'm surprised anyone knew about that.
Yes it did! I passed by it (the lines/reservations were too long) but it seemed like the people there enjoyed it. The outfits were cute too. ^^

SMASH (Sydney Anime and Manga Show) last month had a maid cafe and a host club. It was cute, but could have done with a little work.

More info on Kawaii Kon's cafe as promised:
Students from the University of Hawaii-West Oahu ran a maid/butler cafe at this year's Kawaii Kon as a fundraiser for one of their campus organizations. KK this year was the weekend of April 27-29, if anyone wants to compare dates.

If the pay is decent, they shouldn't have any difficulty recruiting cute girls willing to dress in maid outfits and serve coffee. Hey, if Hooters can do it, why can't a maid cafe also be successful? They don't have to follow the Japanese formula tit-for-tat either, Americans generally don't want to be fawned over quite the same way. (haha I said .. oh nevermind )
