Well it looks like Avalon will only be released with an English language track instead of the original Polish language track, according to the Tuesday http://animenation.net/news/ .

yeah... i'd be _very_ surprised if there were a legitimate region 0 DVD.
i'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find a legit R2 (no english subs, of course) release. (people complain about region encoding, but honestly, there is a SINGLE saving grace for region codes... and that is, no bootlegger would use a region other than 0.. so when you buy R1 or R2, you _know_ it's legitimate.) |

heh... I really dont envy you guys.
I live in Poland so I could get the copy with the original track + english subtitles. But to tell you the truth you arent missing out on alot. What do I mean? When master Oshii was filming Avalon in Poland he told the polish actors to not pay much attention to their lines because later in Japan they will record the correct JAPANESE voices and merge them with the film (which of course didn't happen in the end). So..... all the polish actors didn't put much effort into their lines. Which in the end turned really bad for the movie. I am not saying that their acting (I mean the way how they speak their lines) is bad - but it could better. |

Avalon may be region 0, but that won't happen with all of Miramax's licenses. And they should know that, after Kill Bill's success, there's a market for foreign movies in their original language. But what can I say, except, "I told you so"?! Arkard:
True, but consumers still have a right to a choice, regardless of the quality of the content presented to them. Jet:
Not to mention that it's expensive to import. Not as badly as in the LD days, but the Japanese still charge more for dvd's than us. |

Although the tidbit doesn't say much of anything, I'm going to assume that Neil Gaiman's involvement was simply a rumor?

I wouldn't start doing it on a regular basis. but I think this one is good enough for it. plus there is no hope of getting it in its original form. its not like it just hasn't been licensed and I want it faster. |

Not sure if this is true, but according to (url shortened -c), it might carry its Polish language track after all.

DVDTimes also lists a lot of special features. Sounds to me like there will be both a cheap striped down version and a higher end SE version. Also note the difference in price, AN says $20, DVDT says $30.

Note. DVD Times is in that thread. So it's really only one source for now until further notice. And Miramax's official site says otherwise. We'll have to play the waiting game until then.

Yeah, That's where I got the site from. Your link didn't really seem to offer a whole lot of info so I went right to the source. Since DVD Times and Anime Nation are both news sites I figured I'd just pit their info against each other. So far it doesn't seem any sites are listing 2 versions. shopping.yahoo.com only lists the DVD version shown at AN and a VHS version. If there isn't an SE release then they probably cheaped out and put the VHS version on the DVD. Emerje |

You'll never get a response contacting Buena Vista.
