I remember that all the anime on their besides Cowboy Bebop were edited for toonami standards and they didn't want to spend the cash to re-edit them. On YYH tonight though, Yusuke made reference to his balls, which call it a hunch, I don't think would make it on toonami :)

So what's the deal with it? Is it just YYH(wasn't home to see the rest, I taped YYH) or are they removing edits on other shows as well now?(Including Outlaw Star and Tenchi Muyo..I wouldn't mind seeing less edited OS because reading the edit list it looks like it was cut pretty bad) Or is it that they're showing fully uncuts one's when they can get away with it and the toonami cuts when they can't?

The "deal" is simply that YYH was never edited as much as the other titles.

OS and TM will remain as edited as their 2nd run.

Likewise, PC and 0083 will remain as edited as they were previously.

If the shows didn't require editing for broadcast, then it might be feasible to restore the episodes to the English master. However, some episodes of OS/TM/0083 _do_ have things that Cartoon Network has consitantly edited, be it certain swear words, excessive blood, or whatever.

To return to the original episodes would require a comparison of the current edited episodes to the originals.. and that would cost money, even if all the episodes were returned to their original English dub. Additionally, CN would earn NOTHING more for doing the work anyways. It's not like Outlaw Star uncut would convince an advertiser to pay additional money for the spot (unless the company's advertising department really liked giving away extra money)

So, that's what's up. I think. I hope.

I'm wondering why all these Hanna Barbara shows ("Jetsons On The Rocks" excluded) are included in the late night programing.
Didn't it used to be PG or PG13?

What do you mean "Cowboy Beebop" wasn't edited?
Extream amounts of gore was taken out, although some episodes left in a little gore.
Gratuitous violence was cut, although graphic violence (however you want to define the word) was left in.
Innuendo and erotica were left in without genitalia on screen.
I saw the uncut version in the store, and it was rated 17+, rather than TV14 which would be the same as 14+.

I didn't say it wasn't edited, I said it wasn't edited for toonami standards.

Adult Swim is so different from back in the day...(last year). When they had the best lineup first was zoids at 10:30 and then 2 episodes of inuyasha at 11 and 11:30, then Cowboy Bebop and gundams. But now its on so late i cant fully enjoy it becuz i have school and i have to record the blocks.
I think the block should be like this too becuz the anime they have on are wack.

Inuyasha-12:00
Witch Hunter Robin-12:30
Outlaw Star-1:00
Cowboy Bebop-1:30
Heat Guy J-2:00

And it should be on saturdays god
[EDIT - If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. -C]

I agree with Cookie-sama. I haven't seen nor do I care to see YYH in English, but I think I've noticed something.

A lot of the shows that used to be on Adult Swim were aired at least a year ago. And I think back then, editing was a bigger deal than it is now. And since YYH came out on Cartoon Network a little while after all of those other shows (I could be wrong though since I don't really keep track), maybe Cartoon Network went a little easier on the editing.

As for Cookie-sama's take on no profit for re-editing, it makes a lot of sense. If the companies that produced those other shows went back and re-edited, then there really wouldn't be any point in doing so since they've already been aired.

Most of the cuts are just violence and language anyway, and I don't think it'll raise the ratings a whole lot more. In the end, it'd just be a waste of money.

Well, two of those shows are old and have been into reruns for quite some time now, two of them are playing on CN right now (IY will be back in April), and one of them is not even an Adult Swim property. Such a listing hardley makes sense.

I don't think it was a year ago. It was when Adult Swim first premiered its so-called Action block in, I believe, 2002.

Back then, Adult Swim was on Sundays and Thursdays, and they decided to get rid of the Thursday block (which was just a repeat of the previous Sunday) to create a new Action block on Saturdays. It was during this time that they moved "Cowboy Bebop" to Saturdays with new show "Yu Yu Hakusho" (which was edited to Adult Swim standards), two new shows edited to Toonami standards ("Pilot Candidate" and "Gundam 0083") and two old shows ("Outlaw Star" and "Tenchi Muyo!").

Back then, only "Cowboy Bebop" and "Yu Yu Hakusho" were edited to Adult Swim standards. The others were only used as place-holders. "Pilot Candidate" and "Gundam 0083" were originally slated to go to Toonami, but AS used them to hold those particular time slots until they could get new shows edited to AS-standards like "Inuyasha". Re-editing the Toonami-edited shows to Adult Swim standards would've taken a lot of resources they couldn't afford, which is why they aired as they did (although Williams Street did edit some blood in "Gundam 0083" back in one episode on their own time).

Whoah I never noticed that. I guess someone must have been digging far back in ANN's forum archives and decided to add to the extremely old discussion.
