I lost all respect for the makers of that series after seeing that ending. It makes sense if you read the manga, and that was the worse part! It's an enormous comercial for the manga! Ugh.

I thought the ending was genius myself. Recca was far worse with its open end than Berserk. Berserk served its purpose, which was to introduce you to the characters.

So you mean I have to read the manga to find out what happens next? How many volumes is it?

there are about 17 volumes of the manga available, as far as I know. (check that, 22 volumes)
You can find them at your nearest Kinokuniya, or you can try buying them from the Sasuga online bookstore (www.sasugabooks.com) or an online anime retailer that carries manga.
It's an awesome series, I'd recommend it even if you can't read Japanese.

Don't forget the DC game which has an original story not featured in the anime or manga!

Yeah! The DC game was also pretty terrible. But whatever.

Anyway, back on topic: Those episodes were pretty freaking gruesome. Excellent, yes, but stomach-turning, mind-wrenchingly gruesome.

I went home that night and watched ALL THE DISNEY I COULD FIND. Y'know, stuff with GOOD, HAPPY ENDINGS to make myself feel better. I also took some NyQuil; that sort of helped.

Heh, I've got a similar story. A friend of mine watched Berserk and Ayashi no Ceres back to back. He had to go and watch Love Hina to lift him out of his depression. :)

berserk's ending was a bit bad to say the least but the series was soooooo good and anyway, dont say you didn't expect an ending with monsters in it when you've seen the first eps. and the eps. with all the monster in it which destroyed a lot of the hawks members after they lost griffith.

I think you all should keep in mind that the ending of the series was not the end of the entire franchise. The end of the series is what it's called "the end of the series." If there is a second season, all of you who are bashing the end of the supposed "first" series will forget everything you said and will glorify the next one (series, that is.)

I for one, thought the ending was a perfect way to end the series. And since the manga isn't even done yet, I don't think it's proper to say that there actually is an "end."

I also agree that the purpose of the series itself was to introduce the characters and possibly get you ready for another installment (that's a big maybe.) The story is still a masterpeice to me, and I think the ending is a good stopping point in that in leaves you wanting more.

So if you want to know what actually happens, yes, read the manga. Or, if you have a whole lot of money (i.e. Rumiko Takahashi or Bill Gates), please do everyone else a favor and make the next season. You've got my blessing. Very Happy

And welcome to the forum Freddy C! Wink

OK.... the series was great (little gore sometimes but still great), the ending was super, but the Berserk TV series is a commercial. Sorry, I love Berserk etc but it IS a commercial for the manga. The main point is that they never introduced the Skull Knight or Puck, 2 characters which are VERY important for the story that follows in the manga. I dont believe there will be a second season. Nuff said.

It sure was, but as far as anime is concerned, you can't always expect a happy ending. think of it as "surrealism" where things don't always turn out to be expected. Not to change the face of this topic, but what other series do you posters feel have the most dissapointing ending besides Evangelion or Beserk?

Enquiring minds would like to know...

thanks tony k for the welcome Wink ermm as for disappointing endings, well animes are full of them, they dont always ruin the whole thing, but thats also a reason why there arent many extreme favourites of mine, but here are a list:

hack sign
vampire princess miyu
Uchuu no Stellvia
hellsing
ROD OAV
witch hunter robin

a controversial list i know, these animes above are not necessarily bad animes, but some like WHR and princess miyu, i just thought could have been much better, especially with a good ending.

I'm still trying to recover from Cowboy Bebop's ending. Shocked Although it was great, spoiler[In the last epidsode; Real folk blues Pt 2, Spike gets mortally wounded after a final battle with Vicious and the syndicate.]
It still had me in shock. But i have to respect the creator's descisions. cool storyline and pathos.

I agreed that it made sense to introduce the characters from Beserk, (Hence this "prequel") But after playing the DC game before watching this series.(Not being able to witness Gat's transformation ,no puck or the additional weapons he carries..love that wrist pistol.) i was left slightly disapointed.

Here's hoping for a sequel, I personally want to see griffith get his just "deserts". Twisted Evil
