Well I think this has come up before, so stop me if you think it's unessecary.

What I think of fanfic is that it's like trying to finish a series (Book or TV) upon what has already happened and what you want to happen. Fanfic writers say they're writers but actually they just copy and remake. And usually they think they can write and their materiel is bad.

People who are true writers and write fanfics on the side are, I think, better than the show or book fanatic who thinks he writes good.

Now for all you fanfic writers out there, I'm not critisising you, I'm just saying you should be more careful when you decide to submit you're fanfics so that it's not just you who likes you're ending but or people do.

Fanfics are simply what the term implies, "Fan Fiction." I don't really care what people write in these, and I hardly even read some of them because they look so silly sometimes.

But I don't think you're in position to tell these kinds of writers what they should and shouldn't be writing. It's just fiction on fiction anyway and shouldn't be accepted as anything else.

If you don't like someone else's fanfic, I'm sure if you wanted to, you could make your own ending the way you want it and that would solve everything.

Fanfics are just ideas that people like and feel they want to make into a story. For the most part, I think the writer is usually gearing it more for him/herself, so it would make sense if someone else doesn't like it.

Ah well, I don't even care. I just thought I'd give a comment anyway. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. Have a nice day! Wink

Well I was under the impression that since fanfic writing is just by the fans anyway and is in no way official, it shouldn't matter how good or bad a story sounds, since it's just made up.

But I guess if certain fanfic sites had some kind of rules or regulations concerning the material within that story, whether it sounded too bad or had some questionable content involving some characters, I suppose it'd be right to say fanfic writers should try to improve their stories.

For the most part though, I like to stick to the original. Wink

I agree with that, the original is always the best, or at least the way the author intended it to be.

But I do understand how fan fic came about and exists. There is always this lingering sad feeling, at least I do have them, when I come to the end of an Anime. Hmm, my example would be Neo Genesis Evangelion. My favourite character in the show would be Asuka Langley Shoryu, yeah. She was quite a b*, hmm, I do not know whether I should use the word, but you get my idea, in the beginning of the show. Always bullying Shinji (the loser Very Happy ) and boasting of her abilities. But as the show progresses, her facade started peeling off the reveal her true characteristic. I kinda identify and sympathise with her, the way she tries to defines her existance by putting up a steel front. In the end, I didn't really understand what happened in End of Evangelion, but it wasn't really enough for me. I was quite beaten by the fact that the series ended, and there are no plans for a sequel or something like that. Although I did not resort to reading Fan fics, because I thought they might actually be silly or something similiar, I did want to see a conclusion to the character. A satisfying and understandable conclusion at least, be it a tragical one.

After saying all these, I admit that I do love fan servicing, as long as it is not too corny and crappy and rediculous.

Well, I think i made a big round to make my point. But I made my point. Razz

Fan fiction is just a place for people to show how much they like a series, movie, etc. Say they watch such and such thing, and they come up with an idea of what would happen if such and such characters were in a random situation. So, they work on it and finish it, and they post it up to show the world how much they like this. Whether you think it's trash or not, is entirely up to you. But, some people may enjoy, who knows.

And just a thought, aren't writers people who just write stories, and authors the ones who come with a lot of original stuff? Confused

I don't read a lot of fanfiction, but as long as the author doesn't try and pass it off as canon, then it's ok.

I did a few Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 7 fanfictions back in middle school for fun. They weren't anything big, just me putting a couple battles from the games into stories.

My biggest problem with most fanfiction (especially video game FF) is that it's common that the writer is making an attempt to take paper-thin characters and make them out to be more than they ever were meant to be. If you can't either use more interesting characters, or better yet, create an original story of your own, you probably should reconsider. (just my opinion)

More often than not, they also take characters completely OOC and present situations that don't make any sense and then attempt to promote it as "TEH BEST THING EVARRRR!!!!" as if it's somehow better than the original. I've seen this too commonly presented in fanfiction and it has left me a tad cynical towards fanfiction in general. Although I have read 4-5 well done fanfics out of hundreds, the diamonds in the rough are just too few to make it worth my time anymore. Maybe it's the fangirls who go nuts over the yaoi fanfiction and try to treat it as canon. Maybe it's the consistently poor writing and editing. I don't know, but I guess I just got tired of it somewhere along the line.

Author, writers, almost the same thing except writers tend to write shorter stories or novels compared to authors. Also being author is a full time career while writer is only part time(means you could be doing something else to get money).

Right. Fanfic writers usually are maniac fans that do anything do be part of the story. So decide they want to write something of a another story instead of making something totally new, like real authors and writers(like me Cool)
