I've gone every year for awhile now (I live in the neighborhood), and it's a little different each year. There's music, food, merchandise, and demonstrations (like kendo). While you're in the area the best Japanese restaurant in St. Louis is Sekisui at Grand and Arsenal.

Wow.... I never did make it to that festival while I lived there.
