I've noticed that the Anime based off novels seem to be consistantly high quality. The three that come to mind are Crest/Banner of the Stars, Twelve Kingdoms, and Kino's Journey. Does anyone have any other such translations that are also very good?

Also, though I have read the english translation of Battle Royal are there any known/planned translations of other such work, perhaps the above anime?

All the best

Vampire Hunter D? And I believe Boogiepop Phantom is also based on a novel.

Totally agree. Those you've mentioned are among my favorites. Read or Die novel is another excellent example, not to mention that I've met Hideyuki Kurata himself at AnimeExpo '04. Very Happy

Phantom isn't directly based on the Boogiepop novels, I believe it's a spinoff that takes place between the first and second books.

The World Masterpiece Theater series is generally excellent from what I've seen, and that's all literary adaptations. There's also Night on the Galactic Railroad, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and Perfect Blue, and Miyazaki and Takahata were rather fond of using books as their source even when they weren't involved with WMT (Future Boy Conan, Gauche the Cellist, Grave of the Fireflies, Kiki's Delivery Service, etc).
