Hopefully it's worth more than a raise.

I'm not sure if this is really addressing all the workplace issues going on at MAPPA, but I hope it's a start.

Jesus Christ. Just pay people more. It’s not rocket science. Companies will do anything not to pay workers their worth. Pay people a living wage and give them benefits. Stop producing so much anime that schedules and talent are spread so thin.

Hahahahaha, piss right off, Mappa

I almost have to give them a sick sort of credit: it either takes balls or a sense of tone-deafness on a truly colossal scale to recognize the criticism your studio is facing isn't subsiding, and attempting to distract from the issue by lumping it in with a cheap promotional piece about a new building.

An open-space lounge isn't going to fix the grotesque overworking conditions mandated directly down by your studio's executive board, as part of the strategy to purposely & relentlessly work on a constant stream of new titles under appalling deadlines that you yourselves set.

Meanwhile, having the gall to say "The lack of skilled animators has been worsening lately," when one of the chief accusations aimed at your studio is that it's offering animators unsustainable pay rates to actually survive within the industry in the first place, is some grade-A horsesh*t. You're acting like the problem isn't something you yourselves are not an active participant in!

So congratulations on your galaxy-brained pr exercise that somehow manages to make you look either more incompetent or malicious than you did before. How lucky your overworked, underpaid animators will have access to all the energy drink and coffee your new cafe will provide. Lucky, lucky them.

I could've never said it better myself. Workers in this industry deserve so, so, so much more...

What they say: "...creating an open-space lounge where people can refresh themselves."

What they mean: "...creating an open-space lounge where people can be easily identified as needing to be shamed for not working hard enough and pressured to work harder to the point of mental breakdowns and self-harm."

I was thinking the same thing. The timing of this so soon after recent statements/coverage makes it hard to believe there is a coincidence here, and yet it manages to not address the concerns at all. It does nothing to alleviate pay issues and having a nice lounge area is pointless if there is no opportunity to use it. We've all heard plenty of times about how overtime isn't mandated, but the pressures are still there to do it anyway. Overwork and underpay are the reasons for so much animator turnover, and the response is "We have some nice furniture"?

"Perks" are almost uniformly an excuse for businesses to make one-time expenditures that entice workers to "enjoy" staying at work longer, while improving the business' commercial real estate value instead of giving workers direct pay or more of their time back. Ya know, the things they actually want. Rolling Eyes

They're working off the same playbook of all wanabee-Google corporations and startups. Next they'll install a slide or a massage parlor (and not the sexy kind).

Open workspaces are also massively distracting, leading to lower efficiency, leading to longer work hours to finish the same amount of work, leading right back to the burnout problem they're supposedly trying to solve.

So does MAPPA make more Anime than it can handle, in their early days they made a lot less and some of that was even co-productions.
