Jfc, seen her face front & center on ANN I thought she'd graduate for a second. Before realizing that I wouldn've heard about it days ago already, considering how slow ANN is with VTuber-news.

A lot of Holomem got COVID in recent months, same as with a ton of anime voice actors. I don't feel this should qualify for frontpage-news on ANN anymore, unless they are known to be in critical condition.

This article was posted within 48 hours of the announcement but go off I guess.

It affects their schedules and leads to cancellations of events when a VA/staff member comes down with COVID-19. We publish this information for that reason.

Also, literally everything ANN publishes is "front page news". We only have a "front page."

she did not come into contact with any other Hololive VTubers while contagious.

That's highly unlikely to have happened, but let them believe that.

No need to get defensive, this wasn't an attack on ANN but more a recounting of personal perception and the hypothetical scenario of her suddenly retiring. "VTuber News using their default frontal shot" typically spells bad news, and just recently we had one of those already.
Obviously an AnimeNewsNetworks won't be as fast or exhaustive with VTuber-news as more specialized sources. It does sometimes feel comical when massive VTuber-related news lands on ANN literal days later (as happened in the past) but that's less on ANN and more on my perception and the culture being fast.

Doesn't seem the case with Aqua here, though.

Figure of speech.

Not that unlikely.
She's notoriously introverted and works in a field that allows her to work from home, outside of the occasional event and off-collab, which there weren't any in recent times.

Question then, somehow this makes the "front page news" but nothing for the ILUNA debut, like how all of the other Nijisanji EN debuts were reported? But if I search for it, ANN has published 2 press releases for ILUNA that aren't visible on the "font page"?

Isn't she scheduled to perform at Animelo Summer? Hopefully she'll recover by the 27th.

Well, not the virtual persona, but the person that's the voice of the character can.

You'll have a better time understanding VTubers if you don't see them as a virtual fictional character and more as a real streamer/entertainer personality who has a virtual avatar instead of facecam and maybe "roleplays" a bit according to their lore (how much varies heavily between VTubers, Aqua is pretty light in that regard).
