I was curious about why there were only certain series being discussed here, and seeing the mention of how Toei themselves uploaded the first 2 episodes of every series to one of their channels I might've figured would at least give enough ground to justify talking about each one, but I understand the limitations going on.
That being said, with the Shout Factory, Discotek, Media Blasters, etc releases as more widely known ones, I sometimes forget about TokuHD and Generation Kikaida being a thing, but glad those gave you guys some opportunities to talk about series that they have (Agito & Faiz are 2 of my faves!) I know Wizard was broadcast on a subscription channel in North America at one point, but I guess it didn't have subs apparently, so I guess it wouldn't make much sense to talk about it because it isn't """easily available""".

A name worth mentioning for Showa era Rider is scenario writer Sugimura Noboru, whose work with tokusatsu runs deep.
In fact, during the Rider lull of the 90's, Sugimura branched out of TV work to first be a consultant and later full on scenario artist for Resident Evil, starting with 2. He then went on to have a storied legacy contributing to that franchise until his untimely passing (his last contribution was Zero). But to come back to RE2, I have to bring its parallels to ZO, which he ALSO wrote! A young child (Hiroshi/Sherry) being pursued by a mad science project created by their father (though for Sherry, it IS her father), a young adult (Masaru/Claire) takes on the role of guardian and hero to save the child from the abomination. |

Technically, Sugimura's last RE game was Dead Aim (a.k.a. Gun Survivor 4), which ironically enough was also the last RE game to focus on Umbrella, or at least the OG entity, as the main "villain", as Sugimura was the man who decided to make Umbrella the overarching enemy of the franchise early on. Anyway, I understand why only specific Kamen Rider entries were chosen here, as these are all of the ones that can be watched in full with an official English translation. It gets trickier to really write about the other stuff that only has a few episodes via Toei Tokusatsu World and feel like it's giving a proper overview of each of those entries, as a whole. Still, it's just nice to see some sort of intro to a massive franchise like this, and I did like having two writers to bounce off of. |

This is a pretty good roundup of series that are officially available. It's good to learn more about several other series which I'm still unfamiliar with too.

There's something special about the first half of the Heisei era riders (pre-Decade) that really drew me into Kamen Rider. I can't quite describe it but maybe they feel a bit mature for a tokusatsu show with the themes they handled. Or it could just be Toshiki Inoue's writing as most of the series I watched had him on for script/screenplay.
The second half of the Heisei era (post-Decade) had some good entries (I really liked W, Fourze, Gaim, OOO) but they just didn't stick out to me like the first half did. There were a lot more comedic/light hearted series which I enjoyed but I didn't quite feel the "edge" some of the first half had. Maybe it's just nostalgia goggles at work as I haven't touched these series in a while. |

For me, it would be 2nd half of Heisei era that was the peak, so I think it just really depends on where you began or worked towards. That said, I don't really care about whether something is mature or not and buzzwords like that. As long as it embodies the soul of Kamen Rider and being a hero who protects others and the story is executed well, I think it's great. Of course, character charisma, dynamic and setting come in for personal preferences. I don't think anything is yet to beat the marathon of W, Fourze and OOO for me. But plenty of great titles I like (Faiz, Build, Kabuto, etc.) |

Nice to hear what people think about these series, since it’s such a huge rabbit hole at this point. I watched Kiva in its original airing, enjoyed it for the most part, and haven't stuck with any other Rider show until Geats, which is the current show. Kiva had a horror angle going on that intrigued me, but the shows I sampled afterward were so silly and aimed so squarely at kids that they just didn't seem interesting to me.

Tokusatsu has so much history behind it that even if it's not for you, you just have so much respect for it. So many kids inspired by it, or even become actors just to one day hopefully become a Rider, for example. Sentai, as well. |

For me, I had known of Rider for the longest time, but really only started with Gaim, and continued with Phase 2 (W to Zi-O) of Heisei into the current Reiwa series. I've been going backward as well, finding a good price for a pre-owned V3 boxset, streaming the OG, and getting Kuuga, Ryuki, and Black's home releases.
On a personal level, Ghost, while bemoaned and loathed by a lot of fans, came at the right time for me, as I was still in the midst of grieving over a loss in my family in addition to an early life crisis. |

I've only seen Ex-Aid, but I've been considering watching Ryuki. Apparently it was a big influence on Urobuchi's writing?
